Check this article my girlfriend just found…it features a good pal of ours.
Well well well…
Seriously, how hard is it to get the year right for an album release?
1002
what? al got beat out of first place by shania twain–A CANADIAN?..hm.hm.hm.
i see the potential for retribution aimed at al wife #2.(another canadian)
even if it’s unflattering press, it’s still press. wife #2 IS the one who runs the PR game over there. heads should roll…
Hey Hey… go easy on the Canadians…
Funny article, and it’s doesn’t come out as actually anti-fake accent as much as it enjoys the joyful silliness that is a faux accent. I mean would “With Sympathy” be half so fun if Al sounded all Chicago??
He kinda still used that accent in later songs…
Everyday is Halloween…Whip and Chain…
guess the record label made him do it.

if he had like, a hard core brooklyn NYC accent it’d be ALOT more fun
I actually do believe what Al says about the influences of your music taste make your voice. I was the lead for Grease in 2009 during my Senior year of high school and it was pointed out to me a few times. Al did it in With Sympathy, Twitch, even in Just One Fix but screaming, Friend of the Devil, etc.

Many years ago I recorded an industrial song with heavily distorted vocals and played it for my sister. She asks “Why are you singing in an English accent?”
I wasn’t. I was trying to sing like Al on Psalm 69!
Nivek Ogre also sounds very influenced by British singers on some songs. Arguably, industrial rock just sounds better that way.

Well Vancouver is in British Columbia [;)] Although Ogre is actually from Calgary, and Dwayne was from Edmonton.
This article’s a bit daft.
Think of the amount of British, Irish, Australian, Scandinavian, etc pop stars who sing in that mid-Western American accent (eg; Van Morrison on Moondance).
So, effectively, 90% of all musicians rock a fake accent. I do it myself, subconsciously when I attempt to ‘sing’ (this is not a good thing). Anyway, I think it proves what Al was saying about how what you listen to permeates your vernacular and tone of voice, given that this sort of music originated in America.
we need more people trying to sing like sting in industrial music.

I like this idea:
