Yeah…boy am I glad I saw NIN/Bauhaus!!!
AWESOME show!! It was at the PNC Bank Arts Center or whatever in NJ…this beautiful outdoor venue colloseum thing…and such a gorgeous day.
We arrived late (were pre-gaming with a blunt and some gin/tonic in the parking lot) and caught the last few songs of Bauhaus’ set.
The songs were “Rosegarden Funeral of Sores”, “Stigmata Martyr”, a song I didn’t recognize, and my all-time favorite “Bela Lugosi’s Dead”.
Fucking great performance by the goth rockers. “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” put chills up my spine…and “Stigmata Martyr” was very intense with flashing red strobes and Peter Murphy looking absolutely demonic using a pole to make himself look crucified. God it was awesome. The band looks and sounds great! Would love to see these guys again in the future…very impressive.
NIN were awesome too. It’s obvious the new line-up took some time to really gel but now they sound and look great! Alessandro Cortini was quite impressive.
They played a huge variety of material from ALL of their albums. Al Jourgensen needs to take some fuckin notes.
Highlights included “La Mer” flawlessly syncing into “Into the Void”. Also they played “The Big Comedown” which was awesome because I love that song and didn’t expect to ever hear it live. Lots of stuff from The Fragile…very cool.
I also noticed they’ve been working a lot more on those electronic noises in the background…seems more spontaneous and lots of interesting/cool industrial noises being triggered during the songs so it doesn’t just sound like a rock band when they play live; the industrial aspect is represented as well. Again, Al Jourgensen needs to take notes.
“Something I Can Never Have” was beautiful. They busted out that new track “Non-Entity” which was pretty cool.
Another interesting thing was they played “Help Me I am in Hell” (instrumental from Broken EP) and there were these incredible lighting effects. Impossible to describe but breathtaking visual effects. This whole NIN tour has had some AWESOME visuals. Fucking cool.
Oh, and how could I forget they did that cover of Joy Division’s “Dead Souls” that appeared on The Crow soundtrack. Very good rendition of an awesome song.
The whole thing was just such a cool experience. I really had a great time. Both bands played their ass off. Really glad I saw this over the Al Jourgensen “Bush Sux” tour.
