Her new debut album’s quite cool…has an early British Ska/Northern Soul feel to a few of the songs…not as cool as MIA’s “Kala” but still cool none the less.
Oh yeah, great debut album. The “L.E.S. Artistes” single is the strongest track on the album and I may have slightly overplayed that by the time the album came out but otherwise, there’s not a dub (which, IMO, isn’t something you can say about “Kala”). I look forward to seeing her live.

I strongly disagree with that…i think that’s the lamest song on there. I think “Say Aha” is the strongest easily…that being said “Kala” kicks it’s ass easily.
Yeah after numerous listens MIA’s “Kala” totally owns this new Santogold album…alot of Santogolds songs on there sound like they’ve been lifted directly from an Alanis Morrisette album! Regardless Santo has a few catchy pop numbers happening on there…i won’t be surprised to see her in the charts???
I agree that “Kala” is the better album but I do feel “Santogold” is more consistent and doesn’t have any tracks I don’t care for. I hate “World Town” and have deleted it from my iTunes. “Mango Pickle” is cute but not something I want to hear often and “Come Around” is a mediocre Timbaland outtake. The fact I love “Kala” as much as I do in spite of the weak tracks is a testament to how good the good tracks are.
Yeah i’m glad Timbaland didn’t produce the whole Kala record as was intended!
Like i said though…Santogold definately deserves to break into the top 10 charts with this record as it’s got some classic catchy pop beasts. I’ve already noticed a few ads over here featuring her music so i’m sure she’s doing alright out of it so far???
