They have had them out for a couple years now. But expensive. Unless you REALLY need one, it would be best to wait until prices drop. I’d give it a year or so.[/reply]
ya! the blank blu ray discs are 15 bucks a piece!!

a couple of Kurosawa dvds, some books including the essential Spike Milligan and a new camera.

a couple of Kurosawa dvds.

Out of curiosity which ones? I have to get Yojimbo and Sanjuro again as someone borrowed both, and never returned them. Seven Samurai is still awesome.

I got Fallout 3 for the ps3, and the new Severed Heads 2 disc dvd which hasn’t actually arrived from Australia yet. Oh yeah and underwear (gee thanks mom).

the BFI editions of ‘The Hidden Fortress’, ‘Yojimbo’ and ‘Seven Samurai’ (the proper 190 minute version). Ive only seen a couple of Kurosawa’s films myself but what from what I have seen he is a genuine master of the film medium. He’s made a ton of films too and its only now that I’ve started in earnest to collect them. ‘Ran’ is still one of my preferred viewing experiences.

Liquor
Herbal teas

The only film of his so far that didn’t really live up to my expectations was Kagemusha, but still its worth seeing.

Its funny to see the basic elements for Star Wars in the plot of ‘The Hidden Fortress’. Lucas was even going to go so far as to get Toshiro Mifune to be Obi-Wan Kenobi. Not sure how that would have turned out in retrospect, but Mifune is without a doubt one of the most primal, visceral actors that ever lived. Another good samurai flick if you can find it is ‘Sword of Doom’ featuring one of the most bloodthirsty anti-heroes ever put on screen. The story has some side plots that never get resolved though as it was to be part of a film series that was never finished.

Stuff.

‘Kagemusha’ is weaker than the others alright but still a decent effort. Mifune is quality, have you seen him in ‘Hell in the Pacific’, its testament to his ability as an actor with a range.

Will check out ‘Sword of Doom’, sounds promising.

“Ran” and “Ikiru” are two of my top ten movies. Kurosawa’s great!

I thought “Hidden Fortress” was a little blah especially in comparison to “Yojimbo” “Seven Samurai” and “Throne of Blood”. Recently saw “The Bad Sleep Well”. I like watching his movies set in modern times. Anyone seen “Red Beard”? I’ve always been interested to see that one.
