Lineup has just been released. Headliners are kinda lame but Slayer, Deftones, Ministry, Skinny Puppy, Down, Melvins and tons of punk/hardcore.
FOUR days??!!!
Uggh.
I might be going (haven’t bought a ticket yet, though). Do bands usually bring all of their merch to fests like this? I need a new Ministry tour shirt.
FOUR days??!!!
Uggh.
Yes, and featuring such noted luminaries of ROCK as Snoop Dogg.
Seems a little out of place, methinks. I’ll sit this one out and instead go to the local Hip-Hop Jamboree featuring the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Napalm Death playing “Scum” in its entirety.
I just looked again at the lineup. It is definitely one of the better rosters I’ve seen. I can’t do 4 days of anything EVER, though. If it was down in So. California I might consider doing one select day, but I ain’t flying to Quebek to see any of it.
To reply to some of the things above…
Yes the bands bring merch to the festival. (at least last year they did).
Last year they had Cypress Hill and it was a complete success. I would imagine that’s why they got Snoop to get on board this year.
I think the Thursday and Sunday won’t have much happening. I think there is one show late Thursday to open the festival. (Prophagandi or whatever they are called)
Puppy seems completely out of place there. But it’s Canada so I suppose Puppy fans will be rampant.
Just in case anyone is interested. Schedule was released. Skinny Puppy and Ministry one after another on the same stage Friday night. (Thankfully at night time!) Could possibly be interesting. Or I am dreaming way too much for an Al/Ogre reunion?
A “reunion” would be amazing! and how unlikely would it be that puppy and Al would ever be in the same place at the same time in 2015??
I’m heading off to this later tonight. I’ll try and send any reviews as soon as I can. Not sure if I’ll get any pics since I don’t usually bring a cell phone/camera to the show. Call me old school, but I actually watch the show…especially when I’m in the middle of a hard core pit with windmills flying everywhere.
But hopefully there will be a Puppy/Ministry reunion of sorts.
If any other Prongers are going to be there… send me a PM and we can meet up and share a beer… (or 6)
Great festival. Quick recap of what I saw:
Friday:
Down - Awesome. Entire band was in great form.
Bad Religion - Put on a good show & played lots of old stuff
Exploited - what you expect - heavy fast punk
Deftones - Played Around The Fur in it’s entirety. Spectacular. Chino was in top shape.
Cro-Mags - meh
Sublime - Saw them while waiting for Puppy. Bah.
Skinny Puppy - Amazing. Completely different setlist/costumes than the last two tours. They even had a live guitar player. Just did a quick setlist check…
Fascist Jock Itch
Death (First time live)
Tin Omen
T.F.W.O. (First time live since 1990)
Curcible
Village
The Choke
Worlock
Assimilate
Sick Of It All - NYHC at it’s best. Great energy, and great pit.
Offspring - Caught them while waiting for Ministry. Was pretty funny because lots of people were walking from Sick Of It All over to watch Ministry and they had to walk right through the ‘pit’ for Offspring. They cleared that shit out fast. 500 NYHC fans showing Offspring fans what a real pit is. Knocking people over everywhere.
Ministry - Same setlist as all the other shows, and same 4 oldies.
No reunion on stage with Al/Ogre
Linkin Park - heard them as I was leaving. Don’t know anything about them.
Saturday:
Get The Shot (from local band) - Amazing
Hatebreed - meh
Rancid - played And Out Come The Wolves in it’s entirety. They seemed to be enjoying themselves. Crowd loved it too.
Snoop Dogg - Pretty funny, but he did a good job considering. He even covered Jump Around by House of Pain, and I Love Rock N Roll by Joan Jett.
Refused - Amazing
Rob Zombie - It’s Rob Zombie
Snapcase - Ok
Tenacious D - no idea what the appeal is/was. I was watching as I was waiting for Slayer.
Slayer - SLAYER!
So sleepy… I’m getting too old for this. =P
That’s a fucking great Puppy set!!!
That’s a fucking great Puppy set!!!
Hell yeah!!! I’ve not even followed Puppy since '92, but I could jump right in on that one.
TFWO??? Holy crap.
I’m wondering even if ogre did end up on stage with al or al with puppy, how many folks there would even understand the history? Figuring the ogre/al hay day was nearly 25 years ago.
I would love to hear “Death” live, that’s probably one my favorites from The Process. This doesn’t count, but I did get to hear TFWO live on the Pigface tour in 1991, with Ogre on vox. Cool that they changed it up.
I guess that’s what SP’s ‘rock’ set list looks like then!
1002
finally the first time i see ministry and it was one of the most disappointing experiences in my life. not only did i know exactly what the setlist was going to be but the performance itself was shit.
skinny puppy by contrast was amazing. refused was even better. deftones were amazing but they fucked up a lot.
