I usually dont give a shit about Hollywood drama and i guess this is no different but this will smith slap seems like bullshit to me… well the anger and the flare up may have been real and smith definitely swung but never connected. First off they look too far away from each other to connect. Chris never rubbed his cheek. Its instinctual to rub/touch the part of you that is hurt. Rocks mic was really close and it didn’t pick up any slap noise and that mic woulda launched that noise all through the auditorium and finally this is Hollywood they would’ve lead with the most explicit photo they could find and the fact that there are NO images of smith connecting with rocks face makes me think he missed. Smith is a shitty actor, so I’m thinking the anger was real or smith just had the best acting moment of his life but all these reports of him hitting rock are wrong or hype. at least from my angle i cant see how he could have. Media would have smith’s hand smashed on rock’s face plastered everywhere. Stupid distracting shit

I don’t know Will Smith. I haven’t worked with him either. A friend of mine did, however, and insists that he’s the nicest guy. And up until the other night, I would have believed that.
I watched it live on TV. Here in America, even our “live” shows are on a 7 second delay, so that should someone say a curse word, the booth can push a button and dump out of the feed, which is what we saw here. But I’ve seen the uncensored feed from Australia and Japan. He definitely got smacked and this was not a bit. Or a publicity stunt.
Will Smith has some shit going on. Pressure? Stress? It’s widely known that he has sensitivities when it comes to his marriage. If you didn’t know, they have an open relationship, and word is Jada very much takes advantage of that.
Chris didn’t defend himself because he probably thought it would be a gag. Until the slap landed. He didn’t touch his cheek because he was trying to maintain composure.
Will can keep his limp apologies. I don’t hate the guy, and I don’t think he should be canceled, but I’ve lost a lot of respect for him.
Oh, and for the people who think Chris is an asshole for making a joke about her hair, I lost my hair due to a genetic disorder, and I hear bald jokes all the time. Hell, I make them a lot myself. It’s not like he was making fun of a crippled kid or something.

Ive seen the Japanese feed and the Australia feed. Ive not heard any actual slap noise only the mic getting rubbed and i certainly havent seen any pics of smith’s hand making contact. You get the three versions on the tv and the net. #1 the whole video which is too fast to see anything or the post smack still or the pre smack still… if smith’s hand made contact where is that screen grab?
Im ashamed to say this has taken more of my time than it should have. I dont know or care who is in the right or the wrong. I guess im on the side of team stunt. No actual slapping sound, both dudes laughing, both dudes’ popularity/merchandise going through the roof. No charges pressed. No smith thrown out of the event by security on his way to the stage or even after the assault. I cant imagine the people running the event would not have control over every aspect of that event… having security on speed dial for just an incident… people are talking about the oscars like no other time in recent history… everybody wins. So many people who likely just learned that Jada’s hair loss was natural and not just an edgy haircut are acting like Chris Rock is responsible for following her Instagram account daily like some teenager. I doubt he even knew of her alopecia, but regardless… they were tame, prime time ready jokes pre-approved by the producers, and possibly even written by them.
If Will was so offended and needed to restore his wife’s honor, his time on stage for his speech a few minutes later would have been perfect for that.
Watching a man get assaulted for doing his job with all of Hollywood in attendance, and the attacker receiving no reprimand and not even a minimal response from security, and then to see that attacker go up and play victim while all the witnesses cheered… it was bizarre to say the least, but also pretty disturbing.
I think a main problem with what went down on Sunday night is that Hollywood primarily gets its “morality” from Hollywood. If they’re told one week that they need to stand up for child abuse victims, they’re on their feet. Next week racial injustice or sexism, up again. At least in word and outward expression Hollywood will follow the marching orders of the month very consistently.
The Academy let a physical assault occur in front of literally everyone and then not only let the perpetrator remain for the show, but even celebrated him and let him paint himself as a victim.
They should have dealt with it IMMEDIATELY. Boom, security escorts him out and removes him for the rest of the show and police are called and handed the case accordingly. Hollywood is morally bankrupt. They’re not “evil”. They’re just empty. If this stuff was properly addressed right after it happened, it would not have become this weird murky thing now where people are actually afraid to condemn this for what it was.
I saw a headline today that the Academy is now planning an “emergency meeting” to discuss what should be done. Emergency meeting 4 days later. What an absolute embarrassment. These people should be ashamed of themselves.
As ridiculous as I think this conspiracy theory is, I have to also admit that it’s not completely unreasonable for people to jump on it. And again, it’s solely because nothing was done to address the incident when it went down, so people remain confused and feel better telling themselves that it must just have been some planned performance.

Watching Will Smith’s whole family in the wake of this shit was another eye-rolling story arc. His dumb kid tweets out “That’s how we do it!” the night of the incident, which to me seems like an enthusiastic endorsement of some dopey ass street justice that they think they are. And then a couple days later, Jada sends out some vapid selfie on Instagram or Twitter or whatever, with the phrase “This is the season for healing, and I’m here for it.” What an absolutely meaningless piece of self-important nonsense.
Oh, and to echo Acid’s disdain for anyone pretending that a joke about someone’s hair warrants someone’s psychotic rampage in kind (especially if you are a celebrity and taking public critique is part of your gig) let me go ahead and come out as someone who literally had alopecia areata. I lost all the hair on the back of my head (I would let the hair above it grow so it could hang down over the baldness to try and cover it) and I dealt with that shit between 6th and 8th grade. Yes, I got teased. Big fucking deal. I was 12 with no safety net and without Hollywood fawning over my courage or congratulating me on my so-called battle. It’s just hair (grew back and resumed to normal within 2 years), and I got over it and moved on with my life. If a grown ass woman and man can’t take a joke (which I don’t even think had anything to do with alopecia) then they really shouldn’t be public figures.
