The Holy Mountain (Jodorowsky)
while i agree with the bulk of the films you listed, this one is fucking awful.
not just awful, but arrogantly awful. and i know there are some people here who are big fans of AJ’s, but his work has always been so… needful. he reminds me of Manson or some other pseudo-intellectual louse.
[reply]Take out the profanity and nudity and all you have left is an over rated, much hyped and yet fairly forgettable tv movie of the week.
Also, Keanu Reeves is in it.
i couldnt disagree more.
the film works perfectly as a study of clan behavior and even of non-nuclear family bonding. the way that Glover’s character tries to take over as father and protector because of his fear of loneliness, Reeves discomfort with the abuse and longing to be healthy, the Near Dark kid’s loss of trust and budding abuse cycle personality, the initial murder itself and all of those implications, and most of all the whole ‘she is already dead, we cant help her, but we can help him, i dont want to loose two friends’ logic behind the bonding…
this is a REALLY on point movie.[/reply]
This is correct…
The following are all great and important films:
Through A Glass Darkly (Bergman)
The Silence (Bergman)
The Virgin Spring (Bergman)
The Bitter Tears Of Petra Von Kant (Fassbinder)
Andrei Rublev (Tarkovsky)
Stalker (Tarkovsky)
September (Allen)
Zelig (Allen)
Come And See (Klimov)
Even Dwarves Started Small (Herzog)
The Enigma Of Kasper Hauser (Herzog)
Pola X (Carax)
The Holy Mountain (Jodorowsky)
Only small steps, yet born in a straight line.
You all must see these and forget there ever was a River’s Edge…
I’ve seen all those films and will still never forget Rivers Edge…that would be pretentious and pointless…there are room for all types of films in this world…
Get back here god daaaaamit
(Fuck I’m dying for a joint now)
…
I think I may have a new Thanksgiving Eve tradition: watching River’s Edge.
