Dudes gone! Sad day!
Norma?
RIP Norm. Met him once, he was a really nice guy. Funny motherfucker.
Phone correction? Idk
Dammit. Iām really crushed to hear that Norm MacDonald died. He was my favorite living comedian. Guy was absolutely fearless. While some comics used the climate of so-called political correctness to guide their material to either safely float through it or to intentionally create conflict amongst it for cheap and unearned visibility, Norm did neither. He just always did what he wanted to do and told the jokes he wanted to tell. His punk spirit epitomized āNo Fucks Givenā with respect to what critics may think or how they would react to his material, but when it came to performing his material in the style he wanted, he gave ALL the fucks. He epitomized what a comic should be. Funny, fearless, and uncompromising.
Iām surprised by the news that he died of Cancer and that heād been fighting it for 9 years, but not surprised that he chose to keep that private. He never used a crutch or excuse or played victim on anything. If we knew he was facing such a critical fate we may be more inclined to savor every moment, take the opportunity to enjoy him while he was with us and look up every joke, every interview. But I donāt think he wanted to play those cards.
I donāt usually care or comment much about celebrity deaths because they are not usually close to my heart. But this one is. I mourn his passing as I think it is a great loss for comedy and for humanity, but I also have a weird sense of pride. Pride because Iām not jumping on a postmortem bandwagon. I was already on the wagon. Laughing hysterically and cheering our hero.
I miss him already.
Truly one of a kind and unmatched.
Time to watch dirty workā¦again!!
What a shame. He was a genius.
SNL was pretty much over for me when that jackass ceo of nbc fired him because HE didnāt think norm was funny. The weekend update was fan fucking tastic with norm and they replaced him with that no talent unfucking funny hack colin quinn. That guy has never been funny.
My favorite part about norm was that a joke was almost better if it bombed because he would just keep going back to that punchline until it was funny. Goddamn I loved that.
I just had this sent to me today. Damn that guy is gonna be missed.
āWho the hell fires their slave?ā
Who cares, fish? Heās dead.
I mean, itās not that Ohlmeyer thought Norm was unfunny, it was that Ohlmeyer was friends witn OJ Simpson and didnāt like Norm roasting his friend. Itās insane: a guy gets fired because the president of NBC was buddies with a MURDERER.
I think I remember watching a late night show (conan Obrien I think) shortly after norm was axed and Norm said straight away āthe president of NBC doesnāt think Iām funny, and has been trying to get Lorne to fire me for yearsā Cause I remember thinking āso the president of NBC gets to say whatās funny even though audiences have already decided whatās funny.ā
I didnāt know the exec was friends with OJ kinda makes it even worse.
