Beat me to it. Fuck this is shocking.

That was not a name I was expecting to see in the obits this morning…never a big fan but I have total respect…52???..we are all doomed!!!

The pipes on that guy.
Wonder what did him in. He never seemed like the hard drugs type, but sometimes you just can’t tell.

Meanwhile, Al is still alive…

Unreal.

I am selfishly hoping it was drugs…if I hear about one more person 55 or younger dying of “natural causes” I am gonna shit myself…

Sidenote: I’m 46[shocked]

Now I am hearing from several sources “possible suicide”??!

Fuck…c’mon man…

Yeah…I saw that. Sucks!

Yeah, I was never a big fan either, but I definitely respected his talents and unique vocal gifts. It was certainly a head scratcher as I’d never seen him lumped in with any of the Seattle drug shit (despite coming from that “scene”) and he always seemed pretty clean and driven. Drugs is always the first thing we think when a rocker drops early . . . . but who knows? Sometimes a weird health thing just fucks people.

I only saw the announcement VERY early this morning and I’ve been in flight all day, so I don’t want to speculate on suicide stuff. Very sad however this all went down. Blessings and prayers for his family and friends.

He was supposedly sober. Struggled with alcohol early in his career, but got sober a long time ago.

Don’t think he was ever an H guy.

But, perhaps that recently changed.

I’ve seen Soundgarden 3 times and Audioslave twice. He was an incredible singer.

Death by hanging himself.

A fucking shame. Damn.

Hanged himself a day before Ian Curtis did the same thing. I wasn’t a Soundgarden fan, but did like some Audioslave (saw them at one of the last travelling Lollapaloozas). Pretty sad.

1002

I wasn’t a huge fan, but Black Hole Sun is easily a top ten track from the 90s. Such a powerful song.

Very sad to hear of his passing. I’ve never understood the appeal of suicide. It doesn’t make the pain go away, it just inflicts it on the people who care about you. My thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family.

There is no “appeal” dude…that’s not how it works…depression isn’t rational…

I read earlier two cops found him on his bed with a rubber band (not a rubberband) around his neck. If thats true, i’m wondering if this was an accidental thing a la Michael Hutchins. Either way it sucks. As a few before me on here said, I wasnt a fan so as far as entertainment goes, who cares, so what? As far as someone suffering feeling they have no outlet for help, god damn thats fucked up and i feel for his family and friends and his fans.

With accidental death by auto-erotic asphyxiation, the family may be too embarrassed to admit it publicly. We were also speculating that AEA is most likely the case and not suicide based on finding a tight band around his neck.

I was at a show where he brought his kids up on stage. You could tell how much he loved them. I had seen him solo once around 2000 and four times with SG during the NINSG tour. He had an incredible voice.

2 weeks ago today i was front row watching soundgarden play at a music festival here.

The ruling of “suicide” is based on a preliminary report and likely just means they were able to tell with certainty that the death was self inflicted. It doesn’t necessarily mean that it was intentional.

The full, final determination as to whether it was intentional or not, unless there’s some obvious evidence that hasn’t been made public that it was intentional, such as a suicide note, won’t come until there’s an autopsy and toxicology findings come back and the ME releases his final report which won’t be for several weeks.

Also keep in mind that celebrity doesn’t often save people from the medical examiner’s legal mandate for accuracy in reporting in the modern US legal system. All it takes is one person who was around when they found the body to say “When we found him, he had his dick in his hand” and blow the lid off the whole thing and it’d all come down on the ME who could lose their job and license if they intentionally flub a report so it’d take a hell of a lot of stroke and/or cash to get an ME to fudge their findings.

Not that it matters in the end. Like others, I was not a big fan but this is a sad situation all around. Really tragic for someone who appeared to have everything to live for.
