“I tried so hard and got so far, but in the end it doesn’t even matter.”
No, I’m not a Linkin Park or a Chester Bennington fan. I’m a fan of not dying and not seeing friends, family, and peers die and not having others experience that same tragedy of having their friends, family, and peers die. When people take their own lives it is that much harder for those around them.
How hard you tried and how far you got . . . . that doesn’t really matter much to me, to be honest. As long as your alive, you can try again. You can try harder. You can go farther. But the end . . . the end ALWAYS matters. Life is sacred and special. You get one shot at it. I don’t care if you’re a billionaire or a hobo. Your life matters. It matters to more than you know and certainly more than you are aware of in your darkened state.
Don’t give up on life. Life sucks sometimes. Sometimes it’s absolute torture just to wake up and get out of bed and face the horror that is our day. But we have a chance to make things better. Better to die trying than to just give up.
And if you think no one gives a shit . . . . I guarantee you many do. Call me. I promise you I will give a shit. I promise, in the end it really does matter.
I was a casual fan of Cornell or Bennington, didn’t personally own any of their shit but I do realize the impact they had and it’s sad to see rockers going out too young.

RIP
In a sense depression and mental illness is the great equalizer. It doesn’t discriminate, and no amount of money or accomplishments or privilege can insulate you from it.
I saw Chester tour with the Kings Of Chaos about eight months ago. It was a grab-bag of musicians (Robin Zander, Robert DeLeo from STP, Chester, etc.) performing their hits. Chester sang most of the STP songs. He did NOT look well. Like, just rescued from Bergin Belsen unwell.
I’m sad to hear of anyone’s passing (almost; there are exceptions). But somehow this one just doesn’t sting like the others.
Sad stuff. Not a Linkin Park fan by any stretch of the imagination but I hate to hear about people going this way.
My boyfriend was a pretty big Linkin fan from back in the day and was hit pretty hard by this. RIP.
What really bothers me is that assholes are using the fact that he was in Linkin Park as justification for mocking this, or going “good riddance” or whatever. It’s kinda despicable, even worse than people mocking the Scott Stapp mental breakdown stuff a few years ago. I fucking hate Creed but as someone who’s been in a similar position in more ways than one, I really have to sympathize and think it’s fucked up for people to mock something like that just because they didn’t like his music.

I’ve heard surprisingly little of that, thankfully. Must be that I don’t frequently venture into the darker corners of 4chan or Reddit (or even Youtube’s comments section).

Unfortunately, thats how some people express grief. I for one make jokes. Even dark fucked up ones. Other people have to be “tough and above it.” While there are definitely people out there that are fucked up and callous i think those are the type to not necessarily make any comment on the situation. Everyone else probably posturing based some hyper macho environment theyre trying to conform to.
