filth pig and dark side- two of my favorites and leaps ahead of the recent stuff IMO.
I’m also a big fan of Dark Side and Filth Pig. The new remix cd hasn’t done much for me overall, but I really dig that remix of gangreen. I think it’s better than the original.
Filth Pig is my favorite Ministry album and my 2nd or 1st favorite album of all time. Heard it last summer when I was getting obsessed with Ministry… life-changing. Huge impact on me. The guitars in Game Show are hypnotic. The Fall sums up everything for me.
Dark Side also kicks ass. I didn’t like it the first few listens but now I love it. Supermanic, Eureka, and Nursing Home especially. Like nothing else I’ve ever heard.
I love Filth Pig and Dark Side (and most of Animositisomina, which seems to be the last more or less experimental album from Ministry) but this doesnt prevent me from ALSO enjoying Houses and RGB, albeit for different reasons. RGB is great as an album to listen to when I need to vent a bit of energy.
I agree, the lyrics on filth pig are some of al’s better ones. personal, more intricate. more abstract too.
remember how al bashes spoon all the time? maybe it’s because he was so wasted at the time and gasp barker took the reins of ministry for that album! much more abstract and experimental, which al doesn’t seem to be a fan of these days (hence bashing spoon…and someone even said he dislikes mind? )

Man, I stand corrected, I thought for sure I was a minority on this board when it came to those two albums!! There are definately more on the board now that like those albums now than before…that’s good to know…I guess…for whatever reason.

Also, I wrote earlier (that kinda started this whole side thread about Filth and Dark) that I liked Senior peligro Remix, I mistyped I meant to write RIo Grande Blood I definately like that remix, Senior Peligro… egh whatever not good not bad! Although I do like the fact that they got Stephen Hawking to sing back up for (I think it is) Senior Peligro.

Filth Pig is one of my favorites, Spoon is my least favorite.
Filth Pig was pretty reviled at the time it came out - it was SO different from Psalm 69, I think lots of folks were really disappointed. Copies of it were choking the used cd bins for years.
^
Yeah…but it sold better than Spoon. Man, that album came and went so fast I didn’t have time to scratch my butt.
Exactly. Lots of people bought “Filth Pig,” said “this sucks! It’s not industrial OR thrash!” Then they all sold their copies and didn’t even bother with “…Spoon”.
Then Sire got their contractual hits album out and dropped Ministry like a sack of hot potatoes.

Dude…totally head on…so true! People in 1999 were like you still listen to them.
Count me as one of the people that loves Filth Pig. In fact, it’s my favorite album by any band.
DSOTS was horrible though. Lifeless and uninspired garbage. It’s probably the worst album that I own. Just picking up random instruments like a banjo or a saxophone, and calling it “experimental”, doesn’t make the album listenable.
I don’t know why people choose to lump those albums together. They sound nothing alike.
Filth Pig and Dark Side were some of my favorites… But Twitch still owns all.
i like filthpig but somehow it’s still the longest ministry album and that’s it’s main weakness, maybe they should cut some songs by 0,5 - 1,5 minutes. and because the material is slow, sometimes it may seem like a drag. but what do i know.
The Yellow Cake mix is kicking my ass…I went into this thinking it’d be another Cocktail Mixxx but I was pleasantly surprised.
[shocked]
It’s not terrible but not that great either; it has a few cool tracks. Can’t stand the second remix of LiesLiesLies at all. But there are a few tracks that are cool and most that’s just completely boring. Makes for good background ambience though. But not too much going on here. Cocktail Mixxx is a lot better, imo.
