Rio Grand Dub(YA)

First listen… Like what I hear so far. Nice to hear something besides the thrash…

Not impressed at first listen.

Yeah, Im not too impressed either… Straight forward metal songs dont really make good remix material. The only semi-decent remix album I can think of that comes from a metal source is Fear Factory’s Remanufacture. Granted, that album wasnt all that good either, but at least the remix artists did some interesting things with the songs.

listened to it couple more times. well…
what killbear666 said. ditto.

Remanufacture is OK… I agree a few of them are good, a few are really boring. I used to really like the H-K remix, I think it was that one, the gabberish one… haha… when I was 16 I had a H-K remix dance (purposefully ridiculous, haha… ah, fun)

I liked one or two on fear is the mindkiller too, but remanufacture was better. I have FFs back catalog (incl. almost every single) up to the concrete re-release. I lost interest around digimortal, even though the later stuff was probably better… I keep going to sell them all about once every 6 months… then I go "oh but what about… " and keep them… lol…

I saw them live in one of their first live shows after re-forming at the big day out in melbourne about 3-4 years back, they were really good live. Shame I was stuck in the line for the mosh pit THEIR ENTIRE SET. Stupid D Barrier… stupid limp bizkit killing their fans (not really I know…)… I did get into the mosh in time for… the darkness [crazy] hehe… at least they were entertaining.

Actually one cool thing I remember about FF, which other bands do at BDO often… was seeing burton wandering around near the porta-loos out the back, didn’t talk to him because he got rushed by some rabid fans. Probably just would have said “hi, I like FF, ok bye” anyway…

Just grabbed me a copy.

Yeah, this is…well another disappointment. A MAJOR disappointment.

I wasn’t expecting Autechre or Aphex or something of that calibre but they could have done something to avoid sounding so stale and derivative.

Really bad. I can’t see myself getting into this. Even Rio Grande Blood was ok for a few spins…!!

since we’re wandering off topic, let me add my 2c to what you just said. Sadly, when I saw FF live I thought they were really bad. The only good thing about the show was Raymond, who literally played even those songs from Demanufacture faster and more aggressively. Burton is one horrible vocalist live though… I do remember the band roaming the festival site after their show though, as if they were nothing but normal fans. Very cool behavior indeed.

this remix release is far better than the original one imho!
there are some (not all of em) really cool oldschool industrial tracks on it.

Well, for both sides of the topic.

I don’t know what’s wrong with you people sometimes. I quite like everything I heard off the new Ministry. It’s not my favorite or anything but it’s far from a bad CD. I think most of the remixes are quite good. I think I could have lived without the 2nd lieslieslies mix, as it seems a bit much like the original with more filler, but all in all I was quite happy with it. Better than say, something along the lines of, oh, I don’t know, Houses.

And as for FF… Only seen 'em once and they puyt on a hell of a show (could be the fact that it was their first time playing in that state supposedly) and afterwords they were really cool about meeting with fans and such. I rather enjoy most of their albums, minus Digimortal.

Peace!

So-So so far. Not bad. A few boring tracks, a few good ones. I liked Lies. Only on track 8 right now. Fear was dissapointing.

Palestina is better than the original.

Khyber Pass just makes me want to listen to the original. I think that’s true for most of this album. Not horrible though, just a little bland. A cool idea for an album, just could have been executed better. A few tracks worth checking out anyway, and you might like it more if you didn’t like RGB.

Perhaps Al could have listened to Godflesh’s ‘Love And Hate in Dub’ to get an idea how to do this sort of thing - as that is one hell of a remix album.

Also…there seems to be somewhat of an air of indifference surrounding this new release. Anyone else here feel the same way??

Just a thought.

It’s alright. Some tracks are better than their orginals Ganggreen for example. I like Senior Peligro Not better than the original but not worse either it’s ok to listen to. also the first lies remix is ok that’s what i can think of off hand as standing out… other songs egh…whatever. Certainly not the greatest ministry album but definately not the worst (I’m looking at you pre TMIATTTT Catalogue) But then again this is coming from one of the few on the board that adores Filth Pig and Darkside…

Hopefully i defused that opinion before it got too dangerous! lol

One of the few?? With Dark Side maybe … but Filth Pig is generally held in high regard with most Ministry fans - generally rating second only to Rape And Honey.

Regarding the new remix thing - I approached with caution and more or less got what I expected. I find it completely redundant and devoid of anything interesting. Just an opinion I know, but whatever. There are two or three tracks that had me nodding along but that’s about it.

It was an interesting idea - but the source material just isn’t strong enough to warrant a second attempt. I definitely won’t be buying it. What would have been a better idea would be to have done dub versions of some of the older material - I mean, can you imagine how damn cool tracks like Hizbollah, Faith Collapsing or Cannibal Song or even Paisley would sound stripped back , slowed down and with the bass emphasized.

That’s something I could get excited about.

What Rio Grande Dub(ya) really needed was some different remixers. The same two guys doing every track makes for pretty flat listening after awhile.
If Al decides to do this for “Last Sucker” I’d suggest a more varied group of remixers. Perhaps posting the multitracks online and making a contest out of it like Moby and Slick Idiot have done would be a good idea.

NIN did the same thing for a few songs and some of the remixes that fans made were actually fairly amusing… One big problem I have with RIo Grande Dub is that it really does sound ancient, as if the remixers didnt even have access to modern equipment… One of the things that attracted me to electronic music in the first place is how the production progressively got better.

I’ve never “met” anybody that likes Filth Pig. The only people that I know of that like Filth Pig have been on this board. maybe the population of the board has changed but about 2 years ago there were only about 3-4 people on the board that liked Filth pig. the only one I can remeber right off hand was a guy named fennesz and a couple others…

Filth Pig is by far my favorite Ministry album, and Lava is probably my fav Min track. I didn’t love Filth it when it came out but after a while it just grew and grew on me.

I must I’ve been and still is one of them

a couple of weeks ago, I listened to DSOTS for the first time in monthes and it was just a very very very good moment as I love this album since the second time I heard it

I agree that when it first came out I was like WTF is this…slower, jazzy etc, but it also grew on me and gameshow, crumbs(live) are now true favorites of mind.
