I belatedly caught several episodes of “The Comic Strip” that had great turns by him, also.
I’d recommend for anyone here, if they haven’t already seen them, to check out both of the “Bad News” mock-umentaries: a veritable goldmine of quote-able material. And more on the money, I think, than Spinal Tap or many subsequent jabs at heavy metal (the first “Bad News” was, incidentally, in production at the same time as the Spinal Tap movie.)
Am going to go spin “Warriors of Genghis Khan” now in tribute.
I wasn’t a fan of Bottom or The Young Ones (i saw every episode of both many times thanks to friends who loved them), but i loved him in Blackadder and i liked The New Statesman a lot. He had plenty of other funny stuff too, and seemed a nice guy. Sad news.
New Statesman was his finest hour
Loved Young ones, bottom & filth rich & catflap growing up
I think this 32 second video shot by a member of the public says it all

That clip is hilarious [:)]
Massive fan of The Young Ones as an impressionable teenager. I can still remember getting a laugh out of my schoolmates for my rather ahem spot on Rick impersonations.
His later work was a bit on the iffy side though.
Sorely missed.
RIP.
RIP Rick!!!
