I’m a bit mystified as well. I’m actually in the middle of the book right now, and find it fascinating how open and self-deprecating he is with so many things… yet he still won’t take responsibility for With Sympathy, despite the mountain of evidence refuting his claims. At one point he even makes fun of his own fans who like that stuff.
I mean, seriously… did he get sodomized while that record was playing, or something? Or maybe the fear of Steve Albini cutting off his balls, shoving them down his throat and sewing his mouth shut for making wussy music finally just got to him?
LOL at your username… Sorry to tell you all, Al is an actor… a bullshitter. Sorry to tell you…move on with your lives. He sold a fantasy and you bought it, and it was good while it lasted. But Al is just a bunch of mean problems. God bless that woman who put up with him and his diseases
It’s so strange to see him then vs now. The only thing I have left to wonder about is what the heck was the trigger? You don’t go from flaming smiley face to a redneck that hates to tour by aging. There had to be something that flipped the switch. Some weird experience or something. Either that or there is even more to the puzzle that I don’t get. This aspect of Al is the most intriguing thing about him, to me.
If I was to play armchair psychologist, I’d guess borderline personality disorder + heroin and cocaine addiction.

This comes as close to describing the Al I knew better than anything I’ve read on this forum. Part actor, part chameleon, part malingerer, part genius. Al does what he does because it’s the only thing he knows how to do. If I had to apply a Meyers-Briggs personality type to him, he’d be an ISFP.
and to think, when he was fucking that woman he used to “pull out and cum in her mouth.” There is no way I’ll ever be able to see her and not think of Al’s quote.

if so, what a cunt[/reply]
Yeah, I haven’t come across it yet but, someone posted on the forum that he wrote that in regards to his daughter being his and he questions it because…

What makes it even stranger to me is that of 21 reviews on Amazon for the book…4 give it 4 stars, and 11 give it 5 stars. Who are these people? How could anyone give it 5 stars after reading that?

White trash that are really just giving themselves 4 or 5 stars for just reading a book?

[reply]Or people who just happened to enjoy the book.
Exactly. So I’ll ask again…who are these people?[/reply]
Most of those reviews are about two sentences long, so it’s hard to tell. One of them appears to be a Neil Strauss fanboy, though, which would explain a lot.

I enjoyed the book.
I would give it 5 stars.
It’s an a-hole and vulgar thing to say about one’s ex-wife, but “tell all” autobiographies tend to go hand in hand with a-holism, so I don’t think that discounts the book itself.
That’s not what I meant. I was referring to the fact that Neil Strauss has ghostwritten seamy memoirs and autobiographies for Marilyn Manson, Motley Crue, Dave Navarro, and Jenna Jameson. So, if someone really adores Neil Strauss’ ghostwriting, then I can see why they’d also love Al’s autobiography.
