Revco Setlist

I’d say that was pretty accurate with out hyperbole. Perhaps not the Hillbilly but he does seem to be self medicated with the vino!
Late,

Sad moment…

eeehhhh. sucks. i’m kind not surprised though.

Could care less about freakin’ Revco.

I’ve always hated this band.

The shitty and outright embarrassing recent output and Al’s drunken stupidity and dumbass ‘celeb’ cameo only justifies even further my utter contempt for this farce.

To this day I can’t even make it halfway through Beers Steers And Queers…and that’s considered their high point.

Well, you don’t hear that everyday. Heh.

perversly curious…it’s wierd to see…

“to this day”
suggests you are still trying to make ir halfway through B.S.Q

why don’t you stop
we all did

a long time ago , suckah!

For me the high points were “Can’t Sit Still”, “Get Down” and “Something Wonderful”…all on BS&Q. Those songs are fucking great.

When you say BS&Q are talking about the song or the album?

I think Sin is my new favorite Cock.

[laugh] When I read that first I processed it as Cock is my new favourite Sin. Surely revco should use that somehow. Thanks Ice!

re: BSQ. There are some great songs on that album. In fact I’d still listen to all of them, except maybe the first one. ‘Get Down’ is a great song when you’re extremely pissed.

In The Neck is my favorite, with Stainless Steel Providers and Get Down close behind. Never liked the title track, and I find Something Wonderful to be a little boring. The sample always annoyed me, which I picked out right away after seeing the 2010 movie promo a bunch of times back in '84. I still give the nod to Big Sexy Land for their best album, though YGDSOB might well be their best overall release.

1002

glad the cuban’s in good hands.

That reminds me of when I was in college and I was playing BSQ (the album). Let’s (Talk) Physical comes on and my roommate at the time gets all excited. “What is this!?” he says.
Apparently when he was going through his fraternity initiation they locked everyone in a room and made them listen to that “song” on a loop. I think he found it surprising that someone would actually own that recording on purpose.

you should’ve played him the 11min single version of it too

Hey man! … Eat me.

Chris’s lyrics are rad-tacular. Im one of the few who actually, for some reason, prefers the side projex over some Ministrizzle.

I dig most of it but the lyrics to Something Wonderful… that’s some heavy shit. Maybe it’s just cause i’m a scorpio and read deeper into things than you.

Or maybe it’s just because i READ in general. WHAPAM! FACE!

Never been a Revolting Cocks fan either.

Some of Linger Ficken Good is ok and I quite like Get Down off Beers…

Other than that…I just don’t see it. Sorry, I just don’t get all the love for this act.

It does nothing for me.

And I certainly don’t find it “radtacular”.

That would make my day.

The album.

Sorry, I just find the whole disco metal postpunk thing so samey and dated. It’s like Front 242 meets PIL meets ABBA!! I like the rolling basslines and I admit some of it is rather danceable but I always seem to switch off about 1 minute into any of their songs. Then I check the album sleeve and think…oh no, this track goes on for 5 more minutes!!!

IT’S JUST BORING MUSIC!!

See what I love about Revco is their ability to take a riff or loop and hold space with the loop instead of always moving into the next part. I’m a big fan of various minimalist composers (Philip Glass, Steve Reich, John Adams, Terry Riley, etc) and I love repetitive music, it induces a trancelike chill in me. Revolting Cocks at their peak (and really only in the first three albums) lock into that minimalist vibe perfectly and were really my musical introduction to this type of thinking. New Cocks are straight out rock, it’s fun when it’s fun but nothing that reaches the heights of 10 minutes of “No Devotion”.

I get why some people wouldn’t like this at all, it’s the same thing with me and most John Zorn. I don’t like the way he’s always zipping into new part after new part, it gives me a headache but I totally understand why people like him.

I remember an old interview with one of the old Cocks (can’t remember which one, sadly) where he talks about how they take these songs to the point of irritation on purpose.

aren’t all artists supposed to get to the point of irritation?

I always felt a little gypped when I bought the Physical single as I didn’t have BS&Q the albvm yet. There was a scratch on the cd and the album mix wouldn’t play at all, but the 11 minute marathon played just fine.

I happen to like repetition in music a lot, things that grow and change over time. Which is why No Devotion is probably my single most favorite song Al has ever been involved with. Something about that bass line and the vaguely eastern sounding synths just really appeal to me.
