With regards to the revco show recently… were all the sounds and samples dead on? if so, who did all the programming? were the original configurations (from the studio sessions documented to make this happen? did someone keep recordings of all the samples all these years? who had all the samples? are the guys pretty good about documenting this kind of thing?
I find this very interesting and would appreciate any info anyone has.
watch the vids man. i didn’t notice any differences. it’s possible they went and resampled if they remembered the source and/or looked up the sources online, if those resources exist.
Sounded exactly like the source samples to me, esp. Attack Ships. Duane and Chris were triggering them live (and it appeared that Duane was having trouble with them triggering at one point), but they sounded like the real deal to me. Just watch the videos that are posted here, I think you’ll be able to tell.
I remember seeing that Duane seemed to be having tech. difficulties during the Sunday show [Attack Ships on Fire], and seeing paul go over to help him.
Back in 1991 when I was in high school, my father was working at Streeterville studios, and I noticed on the back of Big Sexy Land that they recorded there, so one day, they taught me how to tape-op and gave me all the Wax Trax related tapes they had. It was awesome. I had the final mixdowns of:
Nature Of Love (with a mix I have never heard nor seen since)
&
Attack Ships On Fire
at the beginning of The ASoF tape was 12 minutes of just the drum loop and then 3-5 loops of each sample being loaded.
So, I made 2 cassettes. Played them to death. Lent one to my friend who lost it and then borrowed the last one and lost that too.
When the studio closed down a few years ago I thought about asking if I could get that RevCo tapgain, but was like “what would I do with that?” and didn’t ask.
Maybe somehow Paul got that reel and that was used to get the samples.
I know Jamie who had put the hard work into resampling all the RevCo audio back into play for the show. The samples are 100% taken from the CD’s. He went back and remastered and reprogrammed the shows in Abelton Live on the Mac.
If you were there on the 17th show like I was. If you watched during one of the RevCo songs the (black guy) sorry don’t remember his name. He was trying to play the keyboard and the connection was not there but the audio was. He was more stage appearance than anything. Jamie walked over and turned on his keyboard.
Great show, I was slight left from center, front row.
DJ Accucrack is playing with FLA in a week. Going backstage to hang! Cannot wait!
