So I went out and saw REPO! last night. It’s definitely not for everyone but I loved the fucking hell out of it. Ogre’s singing like a parody italian chef and moves around with the exaggerated motion of a silent movie star. The Buffy guy is fantastic, Hilton’s funny, Chop Top’s shooting people left and right, there’s some hilarious gore scenes, Brightman’s got a great voice and the Spy Kids girl holds her own for sure. It’s visual and musical overload and it’s by no means a perfect movie. The music is garish and unrelenting and the ending’s a bit of a mess but so what, I’ve never seen anything like it before and I’m left wanting to see it again. If it’s in your town, I say definitely go see it. You might hate the hell out of it but, love it or hate it, it’s an experience either way.
I’ll probably check it out on dvd. Looks tempting, glad you liked it.
It’s only open in something like 4 movie theaters across the country, so it looks like a rental to me too.
8 theaters (which isn’t really that many more) plus they are doing a series of road shows where the director and some of the cast bring it out for one night only. Keep your eyes peeled.
I’m going to see it a second time before it leaves town.
The roadshow played here in Atlanta last night, but I didn’t get a ticket as it had been sold out a month in advance [:(] Oh well, I waited this long, it’ll be out on DVD before you know it.
I want to beleve it’s good, I love Ogre and Choptop, but the trailer doesn’t get me too excited. It’s playing here in LA for a while though so maybe I better give it a chance. I wish it looked a little more like “Phantom of the Paradise” and a little less like those Saw flicks though.
It looks a lot less like Saw in actual execution. More like an operatic undustrial subparstar version of West Side Story. You should definitely see it.
I just watched a clip on the website, and I’m pretty sure that’s all I’ll ever be watching of that. I usually love weird shit, but that looks like a little much. RHPS II?
