I’m planning a trip to NYC in December of this year…
Probably a weekend type thingy. (At the risk of being ridiculed off this board: I am going there to see Fiona Apple). Normally I’m not in to that type of music, but I think I am blinded by her absolute beauty.
Anyways…I haven’t been to NYC in years, and since Moon Ska records is closed (I think?) and so is CBGB… can anyone give me suggestions on where to go/what to do? I’ll be staying in Manhattan. I’d like to catch a Islanders game if possible on the Saturday night…
CBGBs is still open for now. I don’t think they have a lease as of now but are still operating. i’d check it out while you are there since it probably won’t be there much longer.
Juliette Lewis had a song on the “Strange Days” soundtrack, as her character in the film is in a band…eh, it was okay.
Fiona Apple does that sultry voice meets piano-playing chick thing, while being really hot. Not that that matters. She’s been around for many years, but only released two albums (that I know of), which is probably why you missed her. It’s not brilliant or anything, but good for rainy days.
Emo, as far as I know, stands for “EMOtional little crybaby”. This first came to my attention when local punk bands were being called Emo because they sang about being depressed. Soon after, the processed crap they were playing on the radio was Emo…so who the hell knows. I think it more applies to stuff like The Postal Service than The Smiths or The Cure, though.
Dig the new avatar, by the way. Flipper on acid?
I hear that Juliette Lewis actress chick actually fronts a band now…(shudder)
yeh, Juliette Lewis and the Licks, or something like that. they’re not too bad. And she was a musician before becoming an actress. She did a few vocals on the last prodigy album, Spitfire stands out in particular.
