Re: [jizzwad] new Skinny Puppy = 1/29/07

Samples just came up here. Alot more conventional in places than I expected (there are like hooks n’shit!), still very Ohgr-ish but the DEF. got some more noise back in there and Ogre is in top form again (although I like his singing) screeching and growling.

Samples are OK. Looks like this one will be something to look out for in 2007.

Hmm I was kind of disappointed in some ways but we’ll see what it sounds like in full

Wow this is nice! Thanks a lot for this.
I wonder if this is a pre-mastered version like the leak of Greatest… was.

EDIT: After the first listen, I must say I am quite impressed and like it a lot. There are a few somewhat annoying parts but overall this album seems to be top quality.

nice

kick fucking ass.

(i will still be buying this)

well i havent been here in ages…

this album is freaking insane. and i love it. I cant decide if i think it sounds more like an ohgr record or a sp record.

either way… i love it.

Good stuff… maybe this will be the year for a Ministry/Skinny Puppy double header show…

Oh yeah this is definitely top quality Puppy. This album is somewhere in between Too Dark Park and Last Rights. Great stuff!

yea this sounds like older skinny puppy and less like solo ohgr.

I concur. When I first listened to it briefly in the office, I thought of Ohgr. However, upon listening to it in more detail, I think Older Puppy. Too Dark Park era. Definitely cool - I’ll be listening to this a lot more I’m sure in the coming days.

Damn, I wish I could hear what you guys are hearing. To me, it sounds very similar to Greater Wrong, with hints of The Process. “Jaher” is reminiscent of “The Killing Game”, but other than that, I don’t hear ‘old’ Puppy on this album. It does sound a little noisier than Greater Wrong, which is an improvement. Politikil is my favorite, and coincidentally the noisiest track here. Maybe they’ve moved on from extreme noise, but the last two albums sound a little too clean. Don’t know if they’re just working with mostly softsynths (which can sometimes sound too clean and buzzy), or maybe it’s a sign of the times?

This album affected me the same way as Greater Wrong - it’s just ok. Granted, I’ve only listened to this album twice, so maybe it will grown on me. Otherwise, it’s 2 or 3 decent songs padded by some well-programmed, but forgettable material. I really try not to expect another ViViSectVI or Cleanse, Fold and Manipulate, but I miss the layers of sound, the samples, the heavy drums, Ogre’s screams, and even the ‘catchy’ singles. I’m sure my idea of what they should sound like today is way off base. Still, I don’t hate the album, but it might not last long in rotation. That being said, I won’t hesitate to buy tickets if they go on tour again.

Just curious–what songs remind you guys of Too Dark Park and Last Rights? Do you hear the similarity between Killing Game and Jaher as well?

Gonna need more listens.

From the short clips I’ve heard Jaher sounds a little like Nature’s Revenge from TDP.

Precisely what I was thinking. It’ll stay in rotation for awhile as it’s new, but it’s just not…there…for me. Perhaps I should wait for the proper release.

follow up…

I’m gonna keep listening… but this one isn’t grabbing me yet. nothing is really standing out so far. I’ve given it about 4 spins.

I do actually rather like uGli, or however the hell it’s spelled.

That’s the only one I keep coming back to. What’s funny, though, is this album has given me a new appreciation of “Greater Wrong…” - I’ve been listening to it almost exclusively all week!

“Goneja” makes me dance.
