Questions for Jesu aficionados

I can probably find the answers by trawling through previous posts but Im too lazy at the minute, anyway:

What do you consider to be Jesu’s finest turn yet?

&

Anyone prefer Jesu over Godflesh?

Im new enough to the world of Jesu but from what I have of them I would hold the Silver EP to be their best record so far. Though admittedly I have to give the full length albums more of a going over. The split EP’s (2 of them Ive checked out so far) I found to be a tad disappointing but maybe I have to keep listening.

Personally I dont think Jesu can take Godflesh’s crown yet. That aint easy. One big regret I have is never seeing Godflesh live. Will there ever be a chance again???

The Silver EP and the Heart Ache EP are my favs.

And I still can’t put Jesu ahead of Godflesh yet either…

Heart Ache is easily the best Jesu release for me.

It took me a while to really get into Jesu as I’m a HUGE Godflesh fiend. But I love Jesu to bits now after quite a while of scratching my head.

Godflesh and Jesu are two very different beasts. Jesu is a real testimony to how Justin Broadrick evolves musically. The guy is a genius…even if he himself doesn’t think so.

My friend who owns a record store here in Edinburgh didn’t really get into the nihilism of Godflesh although he did love how Songs Of Love And Hate had a real organic Dub-ish groove to it…I’ve done him a few copies of Jesu and he absolutely loves this incarnation of Justin.

Godflesh = uncompromising heavyness that is stone cold nihilism.

Jesu = lush beautiful heavyness with a very warm feel to it.

No you’ll never see a live Godflesh show again. But I can tell you that a live Jesu show is just as devastating so catch one if you get the chance.

I like both a lot. I don’t know if I can say one is better than the other.

Godflesh has a deeper catalog, and it gets plays of course. You won’t see GF live. Sorry, it’s over. Ben doesn’t play anymore and JKB seems intent on not doing any GF live (he did Messiah on the first 5 show jesu tour).

I think Heart Ache & Silver are both amazing. I also really like the self-titled jesu & pale sketches. I find it amusing that already jesu has fans of only certain albums. GF had that as well. I know ppl who only like ‘Streetcleaner’, or only like ‘Selfless’. whatever.

I love all the Fleshy albums. My fav is definately “SOLAH” along with “Us And Them” though…which happen to be alot of the fans least favourites.

As for Jesu…I love all of the releases but the real stand out is Heart Ache.

Also partial to ‘Us and Them’. Got into it around the same time ‘Filth Pig’ was starting to make a big impression on me. Two great albums.

Fuck yeah. “Us & Them” is excellent. You can’t beat the sheer awesomeness that is the fucking monstrous hip-hop beats in “Whose Truth is Your Truth?” or the epic dreariness of “The Internal.”

Great avatar, by the way.

As for Jesu, haven’t heard enough to make a solid judgment, but I like what I hear. Still, I doubt Broadrick will ever top “Baby Blue Eyes” or the DEVASTATING ([mad][mad][mad]!!!) remix of “Crush My Soul”.

Jesu. Can’t pick a fav album though, they all seem pretty mood dependent to me.

Heartache ep.

Anyone prefer Jesu over Godflesh?

I still feel Pure is the best album he’s ever made, so…quite frankly no.

Final’s “Solaris” does it for me.

I prefer Jesu over Godflesh these days. the screaming stuff just doesn’t do it for me anymore. I laugh sometimes. But the guitar stuff is great, and stuff like Pure II, Go Spread Your Wings, and the last track on Love and Hate in Dub are some of my favs.

I guess I’m mellowing out or something.
