Props to John McCain

McCain got booed today at his own rally when he told supporters that obama is a “decent guy and they would have nothing to fear with him being president. although I would make a better president”
Later an old lady took the mic and said Obama is an arab… McCain shook his head and said “no mam he is not”
When did McCain start caring about truth? I just saw this on countdown. I’ll try to find a link for it if it’s on the net. It almost sounded like McCain was campaining for obama…

Is this all you ever talk about?

Get a life.

Is this all you ever talk about?

Get a life.

Or himself, and how he can get so hard he ‘could penetrate a brick wall’

This isn’t living?

Thats old school McCain right there. Thing is McCain (well maybe not now as he is past it) was too good for the hicks. I mean just look at that scatty old wench who called Obama an arab, thats embarassing to have to get the support of people like that. Thing is though I think (for his own sake) he should have just said Obama was a decent man, or a decent American (cue WOO-HOO’s from audience "I’m American, YEAH!) saying they shouldnt be afraid of an Obama presidency completely undermines his own position coming from the Republicans. It sounds as if he secretly wants to pack it in.

What you guys need is a good zombie outbreak… sorry Ive just read that Romero is making another zombie film. He’s almost as bad as Al at this stage.

I think that’s the REAL McCain right there that stepped up, rather than this boy scout image he’s been going for lately. He did the right thing. These people were crazy and stupid with the whole “obama’s a terrorist…arab”. He wasn’t campaigning for obama, he just basically tried to set them them straight and keep this thing a little clean and fair. I think it was pretty respectable.

Someone started that obama was a terrorist, then the idiots flock all over that, and then the whole arab thing…Seems like he sorta apologized for his mistakes (palin, etc.)

well he sure did get alot of PR over this

here we have two competing john mccains: mccain defending obama for political points, or mccain thrusting palin forward as his running mate.
i think mccain means well–I THINK–but he’s completely clueless, and maybe he got a whiff of things not right when the questions about obama started to get vicious. who knows.
i give mccain credit for saying something.
as much as the radical right is unhappy with mccain, he still had the decency to tell them knock it off.
(i’m still voting for obama, btw)

McCain himself isn’t a bad person - I never equated him with the neo-cons. In fact, after he lost to Bush in the primary campaign South Carolina, in a vicious campaign, McCain lashed out against Bush’s Christian right allies. So angered was he, at this point, that he flirted with joining the Democratic ticket under Kerry. He also isn’t a bigot (he has a daughter he adopted from Bangladesh).

He is one of the few republicans who will not only work alongside the Democrats on many issues like Vietnam, campaign-finance reform and immigration reform, but he will do so happily. In '01 and '03 he voted against Bush tax cuts and has worked with Kerry to introduce a bill raising auto-fuel efficiency standards. He is one of the few Republicans to oppose unlimited drilling for oil and gas from America’s shores.

McCain is certainly not the neo-con that many associate him with. If he were to win, I wouldn’t have minded. It’s just Palin now is in the mix and I certainly don’t like that. McCain is a more of a centrist but now I think he’s playing to the right a bit too much and this is hurting him and he may be realizing.

Would that be the Vietnam of Iraq? My biggest issue with McCain/Palin is two-fold. One, Corporations have far too much power, and McCain has been bought before… and yes Palin. She’s a total nightmare.

Yes, but Biden has been bought before too (credit card companies). The reason why Obama hasn’t been bought is because he hasn’t been in office that long. Otherwise he would have been too. There are many “anonymous” sources that have donated a lot to Obama’s campaign. Why “anonymous” - they may be corporations. We don’t know (yet). At the end of the day they are all politicians and will serve the interests to those that will pay 'em off. Sorry for being a pessimist but it’s the truth. Not like Obama will win and all of a sudden, health care will be free, foreign policy won’t have major issues, etc. No, they will exist because the Lobby groups who run this country, will keep doing so. The Middle East will always be a problem (dependence on oil or not) because the Israel lobby is still going to be strong, and Obama is in bed with them too:

So that right there will not resolve any Middle Eastern conflict.

And how Obama’s proposed health care plan will still work in light of the economic disaster, and without increasing taxes for people making less than $200K, is way beyond me.

Good luck though, Obama - people have huge amounts of unrealistic expectation from you. Another right wing republican will come into office if these expectations aren’t met.

I don’t think that is pessamist I think it’s right on the money.
as much as I swing from Obama’s nuts lately, I know he’s not going to be able to accomplish 20% of all of things he proposing to fix. I think Obama is going to have the toughest job of any president, and I won’t be surprised if someone takes a shot at him before he takes office and truhfully I’m quite surprised no has tried to take a shot at him yet.
As far as McCain goes, I’m truly imrpessed. I’ve never seen this side of McCain (truly) He didn’t get that much press in 2000 (or maybe he did and I didn’t pay attention to the primaries like I had this race) But it’s about time he stand up to the base rather than incite them! somebody above mentioned that he should have said that Obama was a “decent American” rather than a “decent guy” I’ll back that statement up because it would seem that’s all these fundies think about and are unable to read between the lines when it comes to stuff like this…
McCain should be ashamed that he has had to appeal to these types of people for support. IT’s pathetic. uneducated, closed minded, bigots. If what I saw is indicative of what McCain is all about why the hell would he align himself with that party??
again Hat’s off to McCain for standing up to the wolves.
