Prongs Pets

This is Abbi, a Beagle mix I got from a home for rescued pups:

Ye fuckers have some cool pets. Ice, that t-shirt is best t-shirt

This whole thread makes me smile.

I kind of want to just blow all my money on airline tickets and go play with all you Prongers’ dogs.

This thread made my day. I’m thrilled at the number of peeps that have rescues. A very sincere thank you to each.

Abbi rules.

Yeah all 4 of mine were rescues…the 2 brothers we adopted not long after they were born…and then one I literally rescued when some fucking assholes were throwing rocks at her in the street…I scooped her up and threatened their lives and then left…and one I found because someone dropped him off at the dog park and just left him…happens quite a bit during a recession unfortunately…

Word. That’s the only way to do it as far as I am concerned. I know I mentioned it in another thread, but my wife and I foster for MidAmerica Boston Terrier Rescue - we hustle dogs across eleven states. We’ve fostered six of them in the last few months, and they have all been a joy. http://adoptaboston.com if anybody is interested. They come with all shots, spayed or neutered, and micro chipped, at a fraction of the cost you would pay a breeder. Tucker was a retired puppy mill stud, and he was in sad shape when we got him. He’s a fucking champ now though!

Every animal I’ve ever had has been a stray or a shelter rescue. It’s not even a social statement or anything. I just have never understood why someone would pay $600 or more for a dog or cat from a pet shop or breeder when there are totally awesome animals just cruisin’ around lookin’ for you or waiting in a cage for someone to claim them and pay their $40 bail money (or whatever it costs nowadays) so they don’t have to die.

Agreed…I’ve had pets my whole life and they have all beeen strays or rescues as well…have never paid actual $ for a pet ever…well maybe a fish or two,if that even counts(hardly)…

I owned a greyhound once, former rescue, but no longer. This is my main nigga now:

Shit I broke the tables sorry

Cool! I had a professor in college who had a decent sized ranch and ran an adoption service for former racers. He typically had about 15-20 dogs at a time at his ranch.

They were incredibly kind and calm and gentle dogs, which was a bit of a surprise to me considering how friggin’ fast they were. I almost got one at the time, but fell in love with a black labrador puppy at the pound and adopted her instead.

I only have a cat now because I live in a condo but if I ever have a house with an actual yard I’d get a dog for sure.

Greyhounds are absolutely lovely pets and retired racers can become quite placid. They also make cool pups, great fun. My dog, though I can’t confirm, I think has a bit of greyhound in her; she can be a live wire - loads of energy - but so affectionate.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen what a greyhound puppy even looks like. They’re such skinny, lanky looking dogs that I’m having a hard time imagining the young’ns looking anything but ridiculous.

This is Mozart, our other dog. He’s a Border Collie/Gordon Setter mix (you would not believe how much hair this dog produces). My wife has had him for 13 years now. He’s a good boy, just the sweetest. As gay as the day is long. He just had a few teeth out and a bunch of lumps removed. Poor guy.

They start out basically the size of what they look like currently, just smaller. However, to get a great idea of how they look, check out Italian greyhounds, aka “teacup” greyhounds:

They are really sweet also, but way more energetic than an older greyhound, which are more laid back than others.
