Prong - Ruining Lives - New album

I know a lot of people here don’t care for Tommy’s guitar playing with Ministry, some don’t like it in Danzig, and probably some don’t care for Prong, but i’m a big fan of all 3. Can’t get enough of those squeals, haha. So, I was pretty excited to read this;

[i]PRONG – “RUINING LIVES”
PRESS RELEASE

“Ruining Lives” is the follow-up to the acclaimed 2012 release “Carved Into Stone” and continues to show the band on an upward trajectory, proving that despite having a long, illustrious career PRONG can still make records that matter and re-invent themselves without negating their roots.

With Tommy Victor in the producer’s chair and Steve Evetts (Hatebreed, Sick Of It All, Sepultura) once again coming in to put his trademark shine on the record, “Ruining Lives” has turned out to be a monster of an album. From the first riff-assault of the opener “Turnover”, the album takes you on an angst-filled roller coaster ride that marries some very old school, “Beg To Differ”-elements with post-punk, industrial metal, hardcore thrash, all the while retaining a modern and current feel. Fans of the bands legendary,genre-defining “Cleansing”-era and new fans alike will be thrilled.

Tommy Victor about “Ruining Lives”: “This is the fastest written and recorded PRONG-album ever and it has more great songs than any previous PRONG-record.
I am particularly proud of the vocal performance and I think we captured some outstanding sounds on this album. There’s a little bit of a throwback element here. “Ruining Lives” is almost a “Force Fed” type of song. The album is a hybrid between NY Hardcore and some very modern, song oriented work. You will find some “Rude Awakening” but also some solid, crushing riffs. I feel we have captured the best elements of PRONG on this album.

“Come To Realize” is something new - we have never approached this kind of time-signature. It really is math-metal meets pure hardcore with a crazy-ass riff. What’s exciting about the whole album is you have your hooks, your riffs and something innovative that makes the album very current. This qualifies as the hybrid nature of PRONG: marrying post-punk, industrial metal, hardcore thrash and modern elements — all of that with hooks and not just a bunch of screaming.”

The new album “Ruining Lives” will be released through Steamhammer/SPV in Scandinavia on April 23rd, in Germany on April 25th, in Europe on April 28th and in the US/Canada on May 13th as a limited digipak version incl. 1 bonus track and poster, as a double gatefold coloured vinyl version incl. 1 bonus track and the CD in cardboard sleeve, as a standard version and download.

Bueller… Bueller… anyone?

Carving Into Stone was underwhelming but I will get the new one.

Ah, i loved Carved Into Stone! Thought their last two albums were excellent. Looking forward to this one.

I liked Carved in Stone a lot as well…

I can listen to some Prong.
But yeah, overall I don’t like Tommy, and I think his contribution to any Danzig track is poison.

Not a fan of Deth Red Sabaoth even? I thought it was a great album.

I hate Prong.

I do like Deth Red Sabaoth.
I LOVE about half of it, and the other half I hate because Tommy is wanking all over the track and making it unlistenable.

Fortunately, all the tracks I like are in a row, so I don’t have to accidentally hear Tommy being Tommy like on “Revengeful” or whatever other tracks he’s pissing himself on. If you take only tracks 4-8 you would have a flawless EP . . . .

4.“Black Candy” - 4:08
5.“On a Wicked Night” - 4:02
6.“Deth Red Moon” - 3:58
7.“Ju Ju Bone” - 4:45
8.“Night Star Hel” - 6:42

Heh, fair enough, i think the closing track’s one of Danzig’s all time greatest, Left Hand Rise Above, not a bit of wanking to be had on that one!

I’ll go back and listen to that one.

im pumped for this. i have always loved Prong… dont much care for Tommy in some other settings at some times… but god i love Prong…

I really liked The Cleansing - however it’s been a long time since Prong put out anything that troubled my stereo system. The last couple of releases were shit boring.

I’m not a big fan but this sounds pretty good:

Nice one, cheers, sounds hefty!

It’s starting to sound all alike now. I think they miss Ted Parsons on drums.

I bought The Cleansing back in the day. Didn’t listen to it much but thought it decent enough. Had some good grooves on it as far as I can remember.

But this new stuff sounds pretty shitty. Won’t bother I don’t think. Boring and samey.

Prong - Ruining Music

yeah… this one isnt living up to the hope i had for it. but maybe the full songs are better than their samples, you know?
