Preferred set list for Ministry

With the farcical “Bush trilogy” resolution of Ministry upon us I think its time again to construct the possible set list that would be indicative of the best of Ministry;

intro: Leper

  1. Supermanic Soul
  2. Deity
  3. Burning Inside
  4. Just One Fix
  5. N.W.O.
  6. Golden Dawn
  7. Crumbs
  8. So What
  9. Thieves
  10. Psalm 69
  11. Scarecrow
  12. Impossible
  13. 10/10

  1. Reload
  2. Dead Guy
  3. Breathe
  4. Eureka Pile
  5. Lava
  6. Brick Windows

  1. Bad Blood
  2. Lay Lady Lay
  3. Stigmata

As regards best line up ive only seen them on the Fornicatour 03 and to me it worked well particularly Max Brody who gave the old gits a bit of life on stage.

that is unreal. i mean yeah, it’s a very good setlist but chances are the culatour would be like the tours for hotm and rgb (i.e. 85% material from the bush trilogy and 5 “classics” that are played to death but you can’t just throw 'em out)

so to be realistic, it would be just mix of hotm, rgb and tls with some old stuff (nwo, j1f, thieves, stigmata, etc).

also the inclusion of “lava” is frightening - on sphinctour, they dragged it up to 11 minutes!! which is a total waste of show time. i totally dig that tune, but four minutes of ugly guitar and bass feedback ‘jam’ make fall asleep.

the ‘normal’ farewell setlist would be composed with 3-4 tracks from each album, not necessarily the singles (like stigmata, nwo, j1f, etc) but other strong numbers (land of rape, you know what you are, kaif, etc) with couple of really unexpected songs. you know, like nin does it nowadays - they played ‘last’ live first time out of the blue only in 2007, fifteen whole years after it was released.

so considering all that stuff, here’s my take on the setlist. or something.

00 happy dust (intro tape)
01 we believe
02 isle of man / where you at now / twitch
03 the missing / diety
04 flashback
05 stigmata
06 the land of rape and honey

07 cannibal song
08 breathe
09 burning inside
10 thieves
11 hero
12 nwo
13 corrosion

14 psalm 69…
15 crumbs
16 reload
17 the fall
18 lava
19 step
20 eureka pile
21 supermanic soul
22 10/10

23 unsung
24 impossible
25 animosity

26 scarecrow
26 leper

the end. make 'em not to drag songs 1,5-2 times the size of original and it would be perfect. oh yea i guess they’d need conelly for cannibal song. and barker. never gonna happen anyway. so i guess i went a bit overboard but i agree about fornicatour - it had paul barker (big, TALL plus), and max brody (drums and sax here and there), and surprisingly a very balanced setlist.

Saw NIN the other day and they played a great set (but far too short, they had a support slot to the Foo Fighters… how embarassing!) 1/3 of their set was from Pretty Hate Machine inclu. ‘Down In It’ which was class. Id love to hear ‘Last’ live as its a solid heavy song.

Interesting set list. I was going to include some pre ‘Land of…’ songs but they got squeezed out in the end. Yeah dragging out songs could be a problem but it depends on the mood or time of the night too. On Sphinctour they probably dragged out Lava to 11 mins because they were knackered and in need of a fix. Al always looked in bits on that tour. The 10 min version of ‘Stigmata’ on Sphinctour I thought worked well, it didnt seem like 10 mins cos its fairly lively.

they did that at almost every show. i mean, look at 96 setlist - scarecrow, so what, filth pig, lava and the fall are all draggers (except so what which has burst of energy), i mean FOUR SLOW SONGS, FOR 35 MINS of the show which is 90 mins, wtf is this, TOOL?

Most likely (and I think even this is giving them the benefit of the doubt, with the way I mixed up the songs) -

No W (with Carmina Burana intro)
Let’s Go
Great Satan
Watch Yourself
Lieslieslies/The Dick Song
The Last Sucker
Wrong
Rio Grande Blood
Ass Clown (w/ Jello Biafra)
No Glory

“We’re gonna do some ooooold ones…”

N.W.O.
So What
Just 1 Fix
Supernaut

Psalm 69
Stigmata
Roadhouse Blues (w/ some faggot)
End of Days medley (w/ Burton Bell)

Whatever, I guess I’ll go anyway, and pay $6 for beer in little plastic cups, and leave half fucking deaf, getting weird looks the whole time at my Stigmata t-shirt. It’s all good.

No way in hell this one’s happening…
But what the hell. This is fun.

Intro: Happy Dust
WKYJ
Paisely
Kaif
Golden Dawn
Leper
Lava (and eleven minutes, at that)
Corrosion/Grace
Vex & Siolence (LOOONG shot if there ever was one)
Faith Collapsing
What About Us?
Broken
Useless
Hizbollah
Stolen

Bad Blood
Crash & Burn
Flashback
Impossible
10/10
Die in a Crash
So What

Overkill
Dream Song
Worm (a fitting end to the Ministry legacy)

Weird looks from a Stigmata T-shirt? Shit, you should’ve seen the looks/questions I got for wearing a vintage Work for Love t-shirt at the last 2 tours!

(that would be the hentai artwork from the 12").

No particular order (based by album):

Twitch:

We Believe
Isle of Man

Lorah:

You Know What You Are
The Land of Rape and Honey
The Missing

TMIATTTT:

Burning Inside
Never Believe

I won’t even bother with Psalm 69 and the bush trilogy, because we already know there’ll be a bunch there…

Filth Pig

Filth Pig
Lay Lady Lay
The Fall

DSOTS

Supermanic Soul
Eureka Pile
Nursing Home

Animositisomnia

Animosity
Lockbox
Broken
Leper

If lucky, maybe three off my list. But i’m doubtful…

Setlist of my fave tracks:

Supermanic Soul
Unsung
Lava
Psalm 69
Breathe
The Missing
Reload
Cannibal Song
WKYJ
Golden Dawn
Scarecrow
The Land Of Rape And Honey
Corrosion
Lockbox
The Fall
Dream Song

it’s almost common law to support the album you put out. But the rest of the setlist COULD have a little variety, being the last tour and all…Perhaps a little more thought rather than the simple and repetitive setlist we got last year…I left a little early last tour (had work the next morning and it’s 2 and a half hours away…so yeah…).

I’m sure they will play a lot of new crap and you can’t blame them for that. So, to heck with the set list. All I ask is that they have a decent opening banding. RevCo was a nice intro last time… but Pit Bull Daycare? I should have just shown up late.

Al should open as Buck Satan, finally unleash that beast. I mean there’s t-shirts already, lol, but no band.

Paisley would rule… oh man thats going to be stuck in my head all day!

Just throw in a couple FP songs. I miss those. Not too many. Crumbs/Lava/Deadguy. Or you can be Metallica and do a Filth Pig medley.
