So, we all know that ‘MiXXXes of the Mole’’ or whatever the hell it’s called is coming out. But after that it seems something else is on the way…and what’s the only stuff left Paul isn’t on…?
If you know who Leaetherstrip is, Claus just kinda let slip on Facebook that he just submitted a remix of “Everyday is Halloween” to Al for…something. He won’t say what it is, but whatever it is, Al’s behind it. ‘Early MiXXXes’? ‘MiXXX Trax’?
We’ve all heard Halloween about a million times, how about compiling more unreleased material instead? If he’s catering to his remaining fanbase, rarities CDs are probably going to sell better than more bullshit remixes.
Early Trax didn’t sell very well at all, and it had several unreleased cuts. I mean, we all bought it, but the general public didn’t give a rat’s ass.
Remix albums and tributes are what Cleopatra does, so it’s not surprising that AC/DC covers and remixes of old songs are what’s going to come from Ministry and that label.
That said, if this remix album has the aggressive '86 mix of “Angel” on it, I’ll be first in line.
Personally I’d love to see remixes of Ministry by any of the old Wax Trax stable: Front 242, KMFDM, Front Line Assembly, etc. Of the new guys Aesthetic Perfection is really the dude who I think could do a Ministry remix justice, especially of something like “You Know What You Are”.
Hey, Razed in Black is actually pretty good for industrial rock. They’ll cover anything and everything, but I’ve never really seen them get slagged very much and I quite enjoy them. The REST of what Cleo always whipped out though…[:/]
I doubt anyone other than maybe FLA (now b/c of the connection due to Jeremy Inkel) and of course Luc Van Acker would have been tapped from the WaxTrax crowd for a remix for whatever this is. Well, maybe KMFDM too.
it was implied by bernard at side-line the other day that front 242 are doing something new. maybe a ministry remix wouldn’t be out of the question, especailly if ‘new’ for front 242 actually means remixing/remastering their older albums like they did for Geography. not such a stretch to imagine that.
Just caught a preview of, yes, Razed in Black’s remix of “Everyday is Halloween” on their Facebook. Sounded alright, although pretty trancey tbh. 2 things jump out at me though:
He said things like “my mix of the track compared to others” which makes me think this might be an entire album of Halloween mixes. And if Cleo (it’s on Cleo, yes) didn’t learn from the disaster of Metropolis’ Front 242 “Headhunter” remix CD (wait…you mean everyone DOESN’T want 70 mins of the same goddamn song???) then they deserve the flop they’re gonna get.
The vocals didn’t sound the same, so I wonder if Al remade the track as well. It coulda been some kind of manipulation, but it didn’t sound like the original vocal track much at all. This makes me nervous as well.
Vox definitely don’t sound like Al at all. If he redid those vox now (circa 2010) it’d be guaranteed to have plenty of screaming going on…and he’s probably sing it slower too.
So… this is going to be Cleopatra’s “An Industrial Tribute to Everyday is Halloween.” Great. I’m with 1002; as long as you’re going to release an album with zero effort, just crack open the vaults instead.
Those vocals are definitely newly recorded. I actually think that is Al, when he says “over the brink” and “brink” it sounds like 2000s Ministry albums. It’s too bad the sample cuts off right before the chorus.
Not surprising if it’s remixes of a rerecording. Cleopatra’s done a lot of these remixes of classic '80s artists (A Flock Of Seagulls, Gary Numan, etc.) and it’s always rerecordings. That’s either because they don’t have the rights to use the original multitracks, or the multitracks simply don’t exist anymore.
