Ministry have gone through so many phases-- synth-pop, industrial dance, industrial metal, digital grunge, political thrash

digital grunge, political thrash? are those musical genres? (seriously… are they?)

I’m guessing the “digital grunge” would probably refer to Filth Pig and DSOTS.

digital sludge would be more accurate but who cares about genres anyway?

In 1990, Jourgensen covered Black Sabbath’s “Supernaut” under the name 1000 Homo DJs; his howl was younger and more caustic then

…except it wasnt his?

I thought the Side Trax version was Trent, and the Greatest Fits/Cover Up version was Al?

yes. but the 100 homo djs cut (the one being talked about in the review) was trent.

that is why it is on the side trax album.

i thought they were both trent and al made up some bs about one being him so it could get released?

havent heard sidetrax much (got the shitty mono version) so cant comment on that; however, as far as I know, it is Trent on the original 1000 Homo DJs version (albeit distorted and made to sound a little like Al) and Al on all following Ministry versions.

I could be wrong since the vocals on that original version are quite distorted, but whoever is singing them has more vocal range than Al usually does, which makes me think the story about Al distorting Trent’s voice to sound like his own is true.

Despite what the liner notes say, it’s the Greatest Fits version on “Cover Up”. I just got finished listening to it. You can tell because the breakdown in the middle is completely different (has the lengthy sample about “The Eye!”, some psychedelic guitar noodling, etc.)
