I’ve really liked Raymond Watts’ contributions to KMFDM (“What Do You Know, Deutschland?” being my favorite KMFDM album), so I figured I’d give Pig a listen.
I’m currently listening to the “Wrecked” album… and this one couldn’t have come at a better time.
There’s been a lot of personal dissapointments, tragedies, and such going on right now, and this album is JUST what I needed: dark, harsh, angsty, and slightly mysoginystic.
Stellar fucking stuff, guys and girls. Oh yes. If you haven’t, check it out; if you have, lemme know about it.
Best tracks:
“Blades [Slash Mix]”
“Sanctuary [Spent Sperm Mix]”
“Slit”
Pig is great. Supposed to be a new pig album sooner or later, still looking forward to it. Best album, imo: Praise the Lard. Wrecked (a great album also, btw) seems to be the more proper follow-up to PTL. I like the last two albums as well, but they’re a bit lacking, while i’d personally say Wrecked is the last great pig album.
The side projects he’s been included in are pretty nice as well (Schaft, Schwein, etc. etc.). I’ve tried to collect as much as humanly possible of the guy.

Same for these.

Fuckin’ genius! [/reply]
I TOTALLY agree. Anything this guy touches is GOLD in my book now. Hell, he might even be my next Paul Barker or cEvin Key!
As much as I like barker and cEvin’s work, i’d prefer Raymond over them anyday. And if you like pig, you should check out Foetus, if you haven’t already - some great stuff there, although the older stuff is a little less “commerical-friendly” than the more recent releases, which aren’t exactly commerical-friendly either, heh.
And note to self: Check out more cEvin material. All i’ve heard from him is his stuff from puppy (almost everything), A majority of the Download material, and some platEAU. Not a single sound of his solo work have I heard…sadly.
Tracks to really look into by Raymond:
The entire praise the lard album!
Find it Fuck it Forget it
Black Mambo
One Meatball
The Keeper of the Margarita
Foetus is pretty cool. I only have the “Boil” live album, but it’s pretty fun… It’s kinda got this whole mindless punk thing to it. I’ll definitely check out the early stuff.
Download is PHENOMENAL. “The Eyes of Stanley Pain” is one of my favorite albums ever (Tracks like “Suni C,” “Collision,” and the EPIC “Fire This Ground” just GET me, man…). I’ve never heard of platEAU, and I too am totally unfamiliar (yet totally intrigued) by Key’s solo work.
I was a bit Pig obsessive in the '90s, but somewhere in there I lost interest. I think my favorite is the one that came out on Nothing (Sinsation?), or maybe the long out of print first album.
I too was a big Pig fan during the 90’s. Sinsation and The Swining were my favorites. But then it started to bug me just how much he was borrowing from Foetus and I started to lose interest. I mean, besides ripping off some music bits from him Pig was borrowing some fairly large chunks of lyrics too. Still Watts has got a great voice. His last two albums were pretty mediocre though.
Also, Boil is a pretty “meh” Foetus album. Flow is a better example of his sound, or if you’re checking out his old stuff pick up “Nail”. It’s tops.
cevin key is fantastic, his debut is a little minimalist but good, his sophmore album is AMAZING, and his last one that came out in 2003 is very Skinny Puppy instrumental… think Brap 3 or even some of the stuff from Bites.
Yeah, got into Pig with Sinsation, i thought he borrowed more from NIN though?
Sinsation was the antichrist superstar before antichrist superstar if that makes any sense. How I think of it, at least.
I had/have a hard time getting into the earlier foetus albums though. I’ve heard Deaf, Ache and Hole. The first two are pretty out there, while I consider Hole the beginning of Jim really developing his sound some. My favorites are probably “Flow” and “Love”: a real close tie.
And really thinking about it, the only download I haven’t really listened to is Furnace. I think I really have heard everything else. Still nothing of his solo work though. Eyes of Stanley Pain is some crazy, whacked out shit.

Nope. he didn’t borrow from NIN at all. even before Trent started with the whole tortured artiste w/so much angst routine, Raymond had already explored with the darker side of human nature in his earlier albums. he’s just underrated, dat’s all.
My personal favs are Praise the lard, a stroll in the pork & sinsation (in which he signed with Trent’s nothing label)
Btw he was the sound engineer for Neubauten on their Haus der luge album & also for some of their early 90’s live perfomances.
I loved Pig in the 90s but got tired of the music. I put “Poke in the Eye” (my favorite along with “Sinsation”) into my iTunes and now just skip over it every time a song pops up. Strangely I did meet a good friend of mine over our mutual Pig and Foetus obsessions, so I have Pig to thank for a real life good thing. Strange.
I used to enjoy PIGs cds very much, just haven’t kept up with him since wrecked. He may not have borrowed from nin but when Sinsation came out on nothing records after TDS it may have appeared that way. I’d bet some people who never heard his old wax trax stuff bought it because it was on Nothing. And they got a good album that was somewhat similar to TDS in style with the heavy drums and guitars mixed with a couple of slow instrumental tracks a la “a warm place”.

Sinsation, to me stands out like a sore thumb compared to the others. Seemed to have taken a more “goth” approach than the others, while following up with Wrecked, which to me was more in line with the other releases. Either way all great stuff. Forgot entirely about Stroll, which is interesting. Have always had a problem getting into High Protein though…too country-ish for me?
And i’ve heard Foetus’ Rife is pretty good, which i’ve also heard Raymond plays bass on that. And for neubauten, doesn’t raymond play and engineer for them in the early to mid 80s rather than the 90s. I know he was definately stomping and bashing around with neubauten in 84, running around with kmfdm in 86, and then foetus. Either way…damn, the guy’s been around.
How he’s so underrated still amazes me. Juke Joint Jezebel was a smash hit just about, and he sang the fucking song. Why is Pig so damn underrated!? heh
Gotta love Raymond. I’m a huge fan…I met Raymond in 2004 (tall dude) & saw him open up for KMFDM in 1997. I have all of his stuff. Praise the Lard is one of my favorites.
I really hope he puts out the DVD from his last tour in 2006. Hopefully a new cd in 2008 too.
