Peter Hook and his band The Light are playing “Substance” tracks from Joy Division and New Order. I downloaded one of the recent shows and was impressed by the faithful renditions and the sound quality.
Unfortunately, Hooky can’t really sing lead vocals, but everything else is pretty spot on. His son, Jack, plays bass, and David Potts (Monaco) is on guitar and some lead vocals. The signature NO / JD electronics are prominent throughout the performance.
Upcoming performances in Detroit on 10/26, Chicago (Metro) on 10/28, Milwaukee (Turner Hall) on 10/29, and Minneapolis (First Avenue) on 10/30.

He has come to some small clubs near me at least a couple of times but as much as I love New Order and Joy Division I can’t get too excited about just the bass player and his band playing covers any more than if Paul Barker created a new band and went on tour singing Ministry covers.
Yeah, kind of how I felt…this tour is coming my way and I wanted to get excited about it but ultimately I just couldn’t…
The night they play at Metro is the same night as Game 3 of the WS at Wrigley. Clark Street will be hoppin’.
I love JD/NO, so that would be something I’d love to go to. No shows in Ohio though.

Cool, thanks! Peter definitely can emulate Ian’s voice, that’s pretty impressive. I think Bernard’s voice is more suited for the New Order tracks, but these performances are pretty tight overall.
I’m going to at least one of the NC shows in November. Should be a fantastic gig and Hooky always gives’ the fans their money’s worth!
I really don’t get why so much hate is directed at Hooky’s vox. He does a much better Ian than Bernard on the early material, yes, but Bernard has become increasingly squeaky and yelpy over the past decade or two.
Hooky’s band is spot-on as well. Considering my favorite era of NO is basically everything from Movement up through Low-Life (and Technique, of course) the setlists from this tour are phenomenal.

His Ian impression is really good. The first time I heard Dreams Never End, I thought it was a Joy Division outtake that they tacked onto Movement. Peter’s vocal tracks on Movement definitely bridged the gap between Closer and Movement.
Bernard can be a bit off key/out of tempo at times, but I think that adds a level of sincerity to the lyrics.
