For the record, unless he was scamming people for donations or breaking hearts (I’ve never seen any indication of either), I don’t really see the problem with “Catfishing” myself (assuming the term is just being used generically for creation and management of different characters).
I really thought it was some pretty brilliant theatre myself. This board is boring as shit if there isn’t some sort of drama going on. So whether it’s me playing rope-a-dope with Gerda, having a duke-out with Amlux, or some other silliness, it’s what makes the board fun.
Ministry has, for the most part, flown the coupe, and when they do have something to put out or a tour or something there’s only about 5% of us that give a shit, and 1/5 of those that actually might feel inspired to even talk about it.
“Peligro’s” elaborate tales of engagement, chicks, massage parlors, lumber mills, depression, obscure record collecting with his “friends”, gay advancements, naked excercizing . . . . .
I was surprised when “Peligro’s” trial actually resulted in him cracking.
As for Grumpy’s analysis and speculation on “who is the real Dildo” . . . . . I think that too is an interesting topic of discussion. I used to create some characters to fuck around with online too. Most notably, I made a really sad and angry emo kid named “Enrique” to join a SAUL WILLIAMS group that Akbar had told me about. I’d make up a bunch of silly hateful poetry to post and just act like a hateful cunt. I TRIED to keep Enrique loathsome because I didn’t want to actually make any friends and emotional connections with anyone as that just gets creepy and weird.
But it turned out that a lot of the people on the board (mostly gals) felt feelings for this tortured soul anyway.
And when I (I should never have outed myself) finally got bored and told everyone, “Yeah, it’s been fun, but I’m not actually an emo kid. I’m just a regular boring businessman with some downtime. It’s been great. Cheers.” . . . . . they lost their minds and wanted me dead. They also refused to believe that it was just me “playing”. They insisted that I was pretty fucked up to create a separate identity to express this stuff (all of which was genuine according to them).
So, who knows . . . . I think when we play these games it really does give an outlet to express a part of us that maybe we either don’t feel comfortable expressing or that we don’t know how to express in regular life.
If Dildo is such an artist . . . . . I don’t think that means that he is equal to his little army of finger puppet monsters. Taking at face value that his interactions in his own account and identity have always been even keel and gracious, that’s all I would take him for. Dildo has always been cool with me regardless of whether or not he creates or manages paper dolls that hate me.
And via Peligro or whomever . . . . these “characters” I think were morally conscious enough to really only fuck with people who are more than happy to be fucked with. I don’t think you could find two people on the Internet more happy to be hated and have a reason to argue than Grumpy and myself.
Anyway, I think this thread is quite fascinating.
I skip through a lot of the stuff Grumpy posts as there’s just so much of it, but I at least can follow the major progression.
And if we’re going to throw Dr. Phil psychology shit at each other, let me toss one back on Grumpy that you all can benefit from understanding.
Grumpy doesn’t really care about someone making fake accounts. He’s never been hurt by any of the characters’ words or anything. But Grumpy does very much like to WIN and to be RIGHT. He was right about “Peligro” before and got his vindication after 7 years of being told he was a paranoid dick (even by me) and to just shut the fuck up.
And now he “knows” he’s right again.
For anyone to discount him at the same level they discounted him before . . . . . . well, that’s just silly and flies in the face of reason.
I eagerly await the continuance of this case . . .
