Peeping Tom

Surprised no-one has mentioned this, considering the long wait many had to endure.

Worth the money I think - at least for hearing Norah Jones drop the word “motherfucker”…heh. So far so good - a creative release.

The Amon Tobin track is probably my favorite so far.

One of the biggest anti climaxes in modern music history, surely. Umpteen dozen collaborators and he still can’t bring anything new to the table. Recycled riffs, hip hop beats and throw away FNM lyrics do not a good album make.

This kind of lazy pastiche would have passed the bucket back in 1995, but in 2006 it sounds downright ordinary. No, make that ‘downright cringe - worthy’. Would somebody tell this guy to quit with the genre hopping already. It’s getting kinda irritating. Reminds me of the fat, smart arse kid at the back of the class who just wouldn’t shut up.

Oh, and if ‘Mojo’ doesn’t have the most annoying chorus out of Patton’s entire back catalogue…

There are some good moments on the album but overall it seems to be a fairly mediocre record. The Norah Jones piece is somehow disturbing because I really wasnt expecting this kind of performance from her (she is known for those depressive full-voice soul/jazz songs after all).

Sounds disappointing but that’s sort of what I expected from such a big name collaboration involving so many different types of artists…

I also hate the excessive genre hopping which ALWAYS seems to involve a fucking hip-hop beat as if you could take anything and just add some lame hip-hop beat and then it’s “cool”.

Being a fan of rap and hip-hop, that doesnt bother me at all, although indeed, the beats used on the Peeping Tom album arent particularly inspired.

I thought it was decent trip-hop/hip-hop. The lyrics were mediocre, but I’ve heard worse trip-hop from full time trip-hop artists.

But then again, I also think Ghostface Killah’s new album is the best album put out in the past couple of years… I do enjoy (good) hip-hop.

i kinda like the band, some songs are a little slow and to same-sounding, but i love the song they do with massive attack, something about killing a dj and playing the song er whatever. other good cuts from it too. probably would buy it new if it costed 9 bucks er something.

I was profoundly dissapointed with this album when I heard it. Its embarrassing to think that Patton is a part of this… awful tripe altogether.

It’s an interesting experiment for sure. Patton basically trading tapes with a lot of hip-hop / R&B people to make an album. I think it came out pretty good. Someone pointed out that We’re Not Alone(Remix) is very FNM’ish sounding.

Going to do a full tour in the fall, and I guess already tossing plans out for another Peeping Tom disc.

Yeah just went over to MySpace and heard some stuff and was pretty shocked/disappointed. What the fuck was Patton thinking? This is his answer to shitty pop music? More shitty pop music?!?

Gonna give it a few more listens to form more of an opinion…

In the mean time I hope they’re not actually planning on doing another Peeping Tom record after this tour…

I’m much more interested in a new Fantomas or something…

Well, I purchased this, which is not something I do very often anymore
Overall, it’s listenable, I wouldn’t call it total trash. I WAS really disappointed with the Dose One track, though. I’ve seen him several times (along with Anticon), and he’s much better than that! Check out a tune he did called “It’s Them!” That one’s classic.
Still, I don’t think Patton can do better with rappers than the 1993 song from the Judgement Night OST - FNM and Booya-TRIBE did a tune called “Another Body Murdered,” and it’s fantastic!
I’ll give this a few more listens, but it won’t be in heavy rotation - I’ve been on a Dzihan & Kamien kick lately.
