Paul Barker DJ Set

That’s the draft flyer - it’s going to be a Wax Trax! night with Paul Barker. We got him in for a night here in chicago. If any of you want to attend, let me know with your full name and we’ll get you in.

Should be an awesome night…

More information is over on the Chicago Suicide Club page:

Damn, how awesome is that? Wish I could be there. So, are both of you going to be spinning Wax Trax material? How long does your set get to be? We never get good DJ events like this in Phoenix. I’d like to hear the details after the night is over. Cool picture of Paul, by the way.

So far, Paul goes on from midnight - 3am. I go on from 10 - midnight. He will play Wax Trax! stuff amongst others. I will probably play hard industrial (I did it last week on Halloween, at the same club, and it went over well).

There are a lot of Wax Trax! nights in Chicago but none with Wax Trax! members. We (my friend Kevin and I) figured why not do it properly and get someone in - I have a feeling this will draw lots of people out who were into it back in the day. I told Paul about the idea and he loved it - thought it was a great idea.

that is awesome. maybe a possibility for a little interview so he could enlighten us on what’s happening and what’s coming up? i mean, we don’t hear from him at all, except taht it’s widely known that “he’s very busy” right now. pretty please!!

Yeah if you guys want to compile some (good) questions, go ahead. I’ll pass it on to him… I can’t guarantee anything but I’ll try.

I know he’s currently working with Duane Dennison (Tomahawk) and as many know, produced that Austin based band, I Love You But I’ve Chosen Darkness. He’s doing a bunch of stuff in LA but I’ll try to get specifics…

Be sure to play lots of stuff from Rio Grande Blood.
Then tell him it’s the best album he’s done in years.

Question for Barker:

What is the future, if any, of Pink Anvil? Many of us would love to see the recording from the New Years Eve Party released. Max Brody also mentioned material for a third album.

any possibility of rereleasing lead into gold crap (along with “low and slow”)

any possibility of entirely new material but more “song”-oriented, non-experimental? sort of in the vein of the songs that he sung in ministry (stolen, vex, useless).

what was his favourite (if any at all) ministry side-project to be a part of?

what’s his view of ministry now and what does he think about houses and rio aaand cocked and loaded?

well, that’s pretty much it. of course, i’d like to know the real reason why he did quit, and the truth behind all these rumors that al kicked him out because of stealing, etc etc that chris connelly said, al talking shit about barker from time to time, etc etc. but that would be kind of rude to ask that, i guess…

Paul, You worked with Kmfdm back in the early days. Have any interest or communication with Sascha?

Pretty much sums up what I’d like to ask the guy. Especially what he thinks of the ‘new’ Ministry. But I think he’s the kind of guy that would give a ‘polite’ answer as opposed to a truthful one.

And I seriously just can’t see him making an album full of ‘Stolen’ (god help us) and ‘Useless’ sounding tracks. Not in light of the direction he went with Pink Anvil. I’d say that that was more the direction he’d be inclined to take - seeing as even Al himself said that Paul was the ‘computer guy’.

Personally I’d like to see a album come out which was more in the vein of ‘Fucked’ or ‘Corrosion’ ie heavy, distorted electronic/industrial soundscapes.

Which…um…I guess could loosely describe Pink Anvil. But you know what I mean…

It’s good to see that Paul hasn’t disappeared and fallen off the wagon. None of the ex members ever seem to have a gripe with Paul - only with Al. Paul seems like a really nice, down to earth sort of guy.

come to think of it, now maybe you’re right, but then again, i don’t like stuff like pink anvil - it’s just too much rhythm-less. as for fucked/corrosion/quick fix then i’m all for it.

I LOOOVE “Stolen” “Useless” “Vex & Siolence” and all the other Paul tracks!!!

Stop bitching dude. You don’t like anything do you?

You’re like "oh I want Paul to do something distorted and industrial, but still kind of musical…so not like Pink Anvil…but oh God not like those Ministry songs either…I want it to be crunchy but not scary…I like when he uses guitar but not the rhodes organ…I like when he plays bass but the BPM can’t exceed 120…

FUCK OFFFF

Hahaha on a serious note though I do agree that Paul Barker is not going to talk shit about Al Jourgensen no matter what questions you ask him. He has way too much class to resort to Al’s stupid ass shenanigans.

Unfortunate since we could use some high school drama to liven these boards up a bit…plus the sensationalist in me wants to know the details of why they split.

Open until 5AM?!

I am impressed.

very cool.

Architectural expert…Paul Barker???

How odd - cannot a musician do anything nowadays without people claiming it’s for the money??

I approached him because I thought it would be a great idea - Chicago has many Wax Trax nights but without any featured artists present. Many musicians are doing these DJ gigs worldwide and it’s not much money they are getting.

If you must know details, he didn’t think he was going to get paid. In fact, his note back to me was:

“Firstly, thanks for asking.
Secondly, yes, I want to do it.”

This is without even talking about where we were going to do it, how he was going to fly in, money issues, etc.

Sure there are musicians who would have replied first about the money issue - Paul is not one of them.
