PAL -> NTSC

Well, I just got a few new goodies. The problem being that they’re on VHS tapes in PAL format. I really don’t have a way to watch them, so I was wondering if any of you guys has the ability to transfer them to NTSC or better yet, to DVD. Anyone?

PAL format can be viewed on the PC…so that’s a plus :slight_smile:

Yeah, but not on VHS.

yea - this is a tough one.
maybe you could check and see if there is some transfer service. in nashville - there’s gotta be something like that avaliable.

I heard that Europe has VCR players that can play this fangled PAL thing. If you want, you can buy a European VCR player off the internet or something so you don’t have to hassle with transfer services in the future.

Send them to me, I’ll watch them for you. [;)]

Hello

Aside from a pay service (I have paid $20-25 for a single tape), you can check with your local tech college/university media center or library. Many professors acquire PAL VHS tapes for research/class/etc and subsequently have facilities for conversion.

Good luck!

I’ve done it before when trading with US peoples, would be simple except for the fact that my Mum has the NTSC record VCR. I’ve been meaning to get another one, they are cheap as in Australia at the moment (I think I’ve seen ntsc record models for like $100-120 AUD).
I would offer to help, but I think I’ll be moving soon, and dont want things to get lost in the mail.
Umm… so useless post really. If anyone is Aus has a Panasonic 6hd Hifi etc. from the last 6years or so it should have an NTSC record option on it though… may be able to help bisquitodoom out.
But alas, my vcr’s are all PAL at the moment (and my PAL dubbing VCR just died on me… suppose it was to be expected, it survvived from the 80s, hah)

Cheers

ygdsob…I went to an audio/video place & they transferred the video from pal to ntsc for about 20 bucks…this was like 15 yrs ago.

Bisquit, I’m pretty sure I can do it (to VHS, not DVD sadly). Hit me an email and we’ll see if we can sort something out.
