Is anyone here a fan of white zombie? As mentioned in another thread, I just got the “thrilling, chilling world of white zomibe” video… It haS promos (thunderkiss, black sunshine, electric head pt2, super-charger heaven, feed the gods, more human than human, welcome to planet mf (I thinK)) and live versions of about half of them (on letterman/mtv etc) and interviews inbetween songs… no credits at the start or end, the start just has something aBout geffen in association with mosh something video… cant remember the exact company name, didnt sound very authentic though…
Anyway… does anyone know anything about this? I have seen that there was going to be a white zombie home video released in 96 or 97… but then got cancelled… one source I found mentioned it could be found in NTSC only and had a pic of the cover… maybe some promos got out? Or like i mentioned, could just be a really good bootleg…
I dont know any good white zombie places to ask about this… thought someone here may be a WZ fan…
Also, anyone here have a copy of white zombies “the one” video? It’s the only one I seem to be missing…
Rob recently announced a box set is being compiled with all of the old white zombie stuff… will apparantly have everything they ever released on it, un-mastered. Should be interesting… some of that old art-rock stuff is alright, some is pretty unlistenable… can’t recall which I already have… gods on voodoo moon, pig heaven, some outtakes… some of the other singles before make them die slowly came out… Not orignals of course… (I wish!)
I saw zombie a few times back in the day. I saw them with Pantera, and with the Ramones. I seem to recall seeing them on their own once too… Great stuff.
Some of the solo material is ok. I can’t stand the last one he put out though. bah.
Great band back in the day, were my favorite band when i was around 12 then I heard Ministry and they replaced WZ. Rob Zombie was/is crap compared to the White Zombie material, he got real fucking lazy and mediocre. J was a class guitarist who unfortunately did nothing much after WZ split in 1996. ‘La Sexorcisto’ and ‘Astro Creep’ were 2 of the best albums of the 90s imo. Another cool thing about WZ is that you keep discovering film dialogue here and there that they sampled in their music, just a few weeks ago I discovered the “this is not heresy and I will not recant” Christopher Lee sample from ‘To The Devil a Daughter’ which is now fairly obscure.
I like the really early WZ stuff, it was actually pretty decent noise rock… When they went towards more thrashy stuff they were still fun but also perhaps just a little too campy for my tastes. Still, I always dug WZ. Rob Zombie solo isnt nearly as good but its still not something that would make me change the station on the radio.
Zombie is actually a fairly gifted director though, he should probably stick to doing that now and leave music behind.
The last couple of releases before they signed to a major were pretty good - especially the one with the Kiss cover. Their really early stuff borders on unlistenable.
The early (pre-Geffen) days are pretty hit and miss. Some fine noise rock mixed with some total garbage.
I’d heard a rumor a long time ago that Jim Thirlwell was actually supposed to be the producer on La Sexorcisto but it never panned out. A shame too since that album never really did anything for me.
I really like La Sexorcisto… HOWEVER, there’s definately something missing from it… even though it’s pretty full (samples etc) it feels as if it could have been something more…
Would like a copy on glow in the dark vinyl… just because it would glow in the dark, haha… I have astro-creep on vinyl, not the blue one though… I’m a sucker for colored wax, haha… an old friend had the Children Of The Grave promo LP… someone stole it… not cool.

‘Chilren of the Grave’ is one of the best Black Sabbath covers ever, its the best off the Nativity in Black tribute album, Bullring Brummies ‘The Wizard’ a close second
Agreed on the bullring brummies wizard, pretty durn cool, I cant stand the covers of Paranoid though, megadeth isn’t it? I love some of the tracks of Nativity In Black II as well… monster magnets into the void, soad snowblind and Slayers Hand Of doom (although thats not that different)…
