Ok… I know most of you are going to be biased on this but I still have to ask.
I have tickets for the NIN show in Atlanta on May 22nd… While I want to go to this tremendously, there apparently is another show going on the exact same night in Atlanta at the Masquarade… Machine Head, DevilDriver, The Haunted and It Dies Today. I could care less about the openers, but I LOVE DevilDriver and have been a HUGE fan of Machine Head ever since their debut album ‘Burn My Eyes’ (which I STRONGLY suggest for any of you metal fans that have never heard it)… I’ve never seen NIN… I’ve never seen Machine Head… I saw DevilDriver last year on Ozzfest but they also have a new album that they just got done mastering and tracking and should be out within the next few months, so I know they will be playing new stuff.
So… which to go to? =)
I could go to NIN and be a happy man, but hate missing that other show. Or I could sell my NIN ticket and be a half ass rich man for a few nights in Atlanta and go to that other show and be a happy man and kick myself in the head for missing NIN…
What’s your opinion folks, and try not to be biased if you can help it?
Boy that’s a tough one - considering they both suck more dick than George Michael at a N.A.M.B.LA. meeting.
Lemme see here -
NIN = Namby pamby paint by numbers commercialized industrial rock featuring the latest and greatest in guest artists like Dave Grohl, Paige Hamilton, and Twiggy. Trite lyrics, uninspired riffs, thin drumming, and a shitty stage show (i.e nothing will blow up, no pyro, naked girls etc).
Devildriver = Dez Fafra’s wannabe nu death metal band. Sure they might sound heavier than his previous weakling squad - Diet Cola Chamber - but that’s not an excuse to see such god awful tripe. Narcoleptic deaf people can write better music than this cum guzzling hack. Death metal lite for nu metal kids who jack off to Jamie Jasta on Headbangers Ball. If you wear your ballcap backwards, talk with a lisp, or collect Beanie Babies - you should definitley go to this show.
If none of that appeals to you - save yr $ for the following acts touring soon -
KingDiamond w/ Nile and Behemoth - April
Strapping Young lad - April
Hate Eternal w/ Krisiun - sometime in June or July
I don’t know these other bands, so I’d say go to NIN. You already have the ticket, so what the heck. The NIN show might be better in a smaller venue, too.
i say NIN just because the odds of ever seeing them in a club again are pretty slim. well unless its a reunion tour… then again if motley crew can still play huge venues in 2005 maybe trent can too in 2015.

Save yr money, time and brain cells and go see the new Tod Solondz film, Palindromes (which I do believe is opening in yr grand old country tres soon).
Get some culture down yr pants, kiddo! Seriously, you need Trenty boy and his posse of rejects straight out of a Blair Witch 2: Book Of Shadows convention in yr life about as much as I need a tumour in the shape of a VW convertible growing out of my chest. And as for Machine Head …
Wow… I didn’t expect so much venom from all of you on this. =)
Well… I don’t care what anyone says. I like Trent. And Machine Head. And Devildriver. And that’s just me. If none of you do, so be it… do your thing. I just wondered what some of you would do if you had the option between the two. I am going to see NIN, not because I want to or haven’t seen him before or anything but because it’s a birthday gift to my best friend who has never seen them and the show happens to be on his birthday. Plus, the last time I was at the Tabernacle it turned out to be one of the best shows I’ve ever seen in my life (just so happens that was the opening date for the Tool Lateralus tour)…
yeh, go see nin. i like 'em. at the end of the day it’s all just music, you like what you like, and the only people that think otherwise are pretentious idiots. i remember when i hated music which didn’t consist purely of guitars, drums and vox… heh heh luckily nin and FnM sorted my head out a little bit
one day they’ll grow up and appreciate the art that is music, not just the music they think is art.
(just so happens that was the opening date for the Tool Lateralus tour)…
oh no, don’t mention Tool or you’ll get a another page full of smart ass comments. i luckily caught them on that mini club tour too, but up in detroit. and it was 10x better than when i saw them at a huge venue, as im sure the nin show will be too. have fun at the show.

As it is, as you have cleverly pointed out for us, by and large just ‘art’ and ‘art’ is after all merely a reflection of our society and the culture we maintain - doesn’t that make us all critics? And if the music of a certain ‘artist’ offends us, then isn’t this - a public user forum where like minded individuals congregate - as good a place as any to express that disgust?
Go see NIN. I saw Coal Chamber about 10 times back in the day, Dez will ALWAYS tour. You will have a great many chances to see Devildriver again, I don’t think the same could be said for NIN. But then again, on the other hand NIN is supposed to have a HUGE arena tour this fall, and this is Machinehead and they haven’t toured in years. Tough call. Glad I don’t have to make it.

See… finally someone who understands my plight. MH haven’t been on tour in years… But then again… with their new album they are supposed to be touring for some time. Oh well… I’ll just catch Dez and MH some other t ime. I already got the NIN tickets… Might as well. =)
Todd Solondz? Yikes - anybody see Storytelling or Happiness? If not round up the entire family take them to Blockhead video and check them out pronto!
That Dylan Baker - what a hoot! Can’t belive he goes from that role to playing Curt Connors/The Lizard in the Spiderman films. I didn’t think he’d ever get work after that whole Happiness role!!!
More power to Todd tho. Fuck all his critics. Not everythings fr everybody.
as fr the whole NIN vs Coal - er sorry Devildriver -
I’ve seen NIN twice. 1st time with David Bowie and Prick on the Outside tour up in Cleveland in 95. The Nin and Bowie duo set was so-so. Then I saw em on the Fragile tour with a Perfect Bunghole in 2000? Walked out after 3 songs. Dull. They use way too much tape. As for Dez I had to sit thru Coal Chamber’s set when they opened fr Type-O in 97. they came on before the 2nd incarnation of the Misfits - fucking horrible too I should add. Coal Chamber is definitely music for baggy panted fools who like to pogo jump at concerts. What’s with these fat ass fools anyway? Why all the kung-fu moves in the pit? I lkied heavy shows better when people would just stand their motionless nodding along until a band would toss razors into the crowd fr people to play with. This Dez guy’s a total cheerleader. And that chick in the band was - YEESH! She like had this massive forehead with these beady little deep set eyes - and she would jerk around like a new born calf. I think her name was Rayna or something. The promoter shoulda warned me and told me to bring my beer goggles. Nasty.
She will definitley be getting a letter from my lawyer for the amount of irreversible eye-rape her ghastly appearance has caused me.

What were you even doing there in the first place, pigfucker? Amazing. You constantly ‘dweeb’ out and start ranting about these predictably inciteful topics like yr some kind of Wire magazine endorsed credible muso journalist hack. You are not. It’s no revelation that nu-metal and teenie punk is about as relevant as a democrat sponsored anti - war rally, yet yr knowledge of and participation in this scene is sickening. Hate to be the bearer of bad news buddy, but it’s painfully clear to us all that you have more in common with the shit you so transparantly ‘despise’ than just about anybody on this board. Yr tinpot, schoolyard rebel-for-hire charade is looking pretty shaky, stupidweed - I suggest you rethink yr strategy and form a new secret identity.
You know something Peligro? I really don’t like you. You came on this board and started off kinda kewl but ever since your like 10th post you’ve become a freakin’ nazi. You are not the authoritative music man, nor are you the one who can convey all of our sentiments or feelings on music. We are all individuals and like different music styles and bands. We don’t criticize you for being the idiot you project yourself as so why do you bash all of us for being ourselves? Get a life, grow up and get on with yourself. You act like a 13 year old who just got a computer and found the first message board he could to spam and spaz on.

Yes, Peligro, I agree. I don’t know if you are Fennesz or not, (because you are based in Austrailia) and I don’t care, but you’re attitude isn’t needed here. Grow up…
personally i’d rather see machine head than NIN, but i’ve never been a big NIN fan anyway. however, seeing NIN is a rare oppurtunity, machine head do actually play often enough (you just haven’t been paying enough attention to gig listings) i’ve heard they can be pretty hit and miss live, but when i saw them at download in glasgow last year, they were one of the highlights of the festival for me, even though they didn’t play blood for blood. i couldn’t really be arsed with any of their recorded material after the first couple of albums, but they’re still a shit hot live band. i’ve not heard des fairyfafafafafa’s new band, but coal chamber made me want to grab the nearest minimosher and vomit down his throat for buying this fucking bollocks. so, i’d say, go see NIN, cos you’ll get another oppurtunity to see machine head soon enough.
