Big fan, although he lost me with that Disney movie; that one with Sissy Spacek. I spent nearly five years looking for a VHS copy of Eraserhead, and now you can find it anywhere on DVD. Isn’t technology wonderful?

Elephant Man is a classic.
Gotta give a little love to Mulholland Drive. Hottest lesbian scene ever.
Hooray for Lost Highway and Blue Velvet! Is Inland Empire a new movie of his thats gonna come out or is it coming on to dvd er something? Sorry, Ive always wanted to get into his stuff but his movies are hard to find. Im renting Elephant Man on tuesday though so, yayuh-licious.
P.S. Anthony Hopkins is a freaking awesome actor, I just saw Hannibal and Silence of the Lambs (both extra-shiz editions) for the 4th time and I re-love that dood.
I’m just glad they finally did a decent version of “Red Dragon.” That “Manhunter” shit sucks my hairy ass! As for the new Lynch film, I don’t know, but you should check out Elephant Man, Blue Velvet, Eraserhead, Lost Highway, and if you can find them, his early shorts. That’s goodness in a bag, right there.
Eraserhead and The Short Films of David Lynch were both re-released earlier this month. That means you can now find them somewhere outside of his website, and they’re cheaper. They also come in standard DVD cases, and not some weird big box.
Ah yes a David Lynch tread. He is easily the most provacative and original director around, but that aside his films are simply fucking great. Mulholland Drive is an absolute gem. Lost Highway, Blue Velvet are all classics aswell. But Eraserhead is probably my favourite of his; a study in the soul destroying nature of an industrial landscape/nightmare. Whenever Lynch and Jack Nance got together it was amazing but Eraserhead was the only film in which Nance had the lead role. Nance was the one of the most interesting actors ever and the fact he’s relatively unknown it makes it all the more special. But anyway back to Lynch, his next film INLAND EMPIRE is due out later this year. Its kind of along the same lines as Mulholland Drive; stars Laura Dern, Jeremy Irons and Harry Dean Stanton. Most of it was shot in Poland over the last 2 years and its entirely in DV format.

Are you serious. ‘Red Dragon’ was a pile of steaming shite: just another excuse to put Hopkins in another Lecter role. Manhunter was a great film, great performances (most notably Tom Noonan as Dollarhyde, especailly compared to the woeful miscasting of Fiennes as Dollarhyde in ‘Red Dragon’). Excellent cinematography and direction as you can only expect from Michael Mann from the late 80s onwards.
Never saw the original “Manhunter”, but I remember thinking when I saw “Red Dragon” that Fiennes and Phillip Seymour Hoffman should have switched roles.
I do dig your Jack Nance quote (Mick), that freaking cracked me up the first time I read it! I did think Tom Noonan was better in that role, but I’m really anal about movies made from books. Since Manhunter only slightly resembled Red Dragon, I just can’t approve. And come on, Ed Norton? You can’t go wrong there. Anyway, I don’t wanna turn this into a Micheal Mann thread, when I think we were talking about a good director. Thanks for the info about Inland Empire, sounds neat.
