I seem to remember that there were a few fans of this band on the board (while for most Ministry fans, the band’s high concept approach might be too overdone?). Anyway, Carl McCoy is going to release the first official Nephilim album since 1996 in mid november, called “Mourning Sun”. The album has leaked onto the net a while ago and unlike most albums that have suffered from too much hype over the years, this one doesnt disappoint. Although their style has been copied by countless bands, especially those awful melancholic/gothic metal bands, the Nephilim still sound unique and relevant on the upcoming release. Carl’s voice is something that cannot be immitated.
Do you think Ministry might have been influenced by the Nephilim in any way? There is the obvious similarity in image (cowboy hats etc) but there are also some musical and lyrical similarities. The musical similarities might come from the fact that both bands existed in the post-punk genre of music (and the Nephilim always used synths and samples generously in their music) and the lyrical similarities are only really apparent on the songs that Chris Connelly sings on (most notably “Never Believe”, where he sings “grab this giant’s hand”, the “giant” being most probably a Nephilim).
