OT: Current 93 / NWW help

I’m a big fan of Coil and Death in June, but i’ve always been too lazy to check out Current 93 and Nurse with Wound. I know they all liked to collaborate here and there and was wondering if anyone more familiar with these bands could point me in a good starting direction.

I’m not a big NWW fan, but I can help with Current 93.

Their most approachable albums are probably “Thunder Perfect Mind” (which has a sister recording by Nurse With Wound and was just re-released as a two disc set) and “All The Pretty Horses” (which is out of print, but I think there’s a deluxe edition on its way). My personal favorite is “Soft Black Stars,” but it’s not a record to everyone’s taste. Not too long ago a two-disc best-of called “Judas As A Black Moth” came out, which covers their last 10 or 15 years.
If you’re more interested in their more experimental early years, you’ll have to do some hunting - all that stuff went out of print when World Serpent fell apart. But “Emblems: The Menstrual Years” is a pretty good overview of their '80s/early '90s stuff.

Also, I can’t recommend the book “England’s Hidden Reverse” highly enough. It’s a biography of Coil, Current 93, Nurse With Wound, and really that whole scene. It’s EXCELLENT.

Current 93 can really be divided into 2 eras - the early noisey stuff and the later, folky stuff. There are a couple retrospectives that would be a good place to start. I don’t really care for the early stuff. If you like Death In June, the later stuff’s for you. Try Thunder Perfect Mind, All The Pretty Horses, Island, or Swastikas For Noddy.

NWW to me is pretty hit or miss. All of Stapleton’s stuff is quite random, so don’t expect anything slightly normal. Who Can I Turn To Stereo was the fist NWW album I tried, and it’s still one of my favorites, so that might be a good place to start. I really enjoyed The Swinging Retrospective, which has a bunch of his collaborations with other musicians.

I…loves…Current 93!!! Really recommend Thunder Perfect Mind.
“A Song for Douglas…after he’s dead”

Most of their old stuff’s out of print, so get it wherever you can.
For their new releases, I like to order directly from the artist at www.durtro.com
