Original Dark Side Of The Spoon

I read an interview not too long ago with Al saying they had the album completed around '98, then they scrapped it except for two songs. Has anyone heard or have the scrapped trax? And where could I find some other Dark Side demos. Only thing I’ve heard were the demo of Supermanic Soul that has samples that make the song flow better and an extended version of Step which is also better. I also know of an extended version of Nursing Home but I dont particulary care for that song. Oh yeah, and whatever happened to the ClitourUS live album…

All we know about the scrapped material is that it was supposedly very ‘ambient’.

I remember reading an interview with Paul in '97 or '98 wher he gave an update on the recording of the new album and he spoke about a track called ‘Monkey Brains’ and said it was mostly feedback and samples with virtually no drumming. That would’ve been interesting.

And I doubt Al’s gonna release any of that. I’ll be happy if Clitourus gets released with all the live dark side trax on it but I’m still hoping for demos…

Maybe some of it was recycled as Pink Anvil tracks?

I haven’t listened to too much pink anvil, but from what I gather it sounds like spooky halloween music. I’m also interested in demos from the final cut of the album. Anyone have them?

Well, the album’s called “Halloween Party,” but it doesn’t sound like Disney’s Haunted Mansion if that’s what you’re thinking.
It’s pretty much experimental wanking around.

The more Industrial Metallish tracks on Pink Anvil ‘Halloween Party’ are actually scrapped songs from ‘Animositisomina’ that Al did not want to use for the album. They were written by Max Brody and Paul Barker for Ministry, but then converted to Pink Anvil tracks when Al rejected them. Then 2 of them finally became Flowering Blight tracks on ‘A Perfect Pair’.

I think they really give a cool insight into the writing process. I prefer the more polished and rock-oriented mix of the Flowering Blight versions because they have more punch and are more well-produced, but I like some of the weird noises on the Pink Anvil version and I think Paul’s nasally whining vocals (without the effects need to make them not suck) pretty much ruin both tracks.

A shame because they could have been great Ministry songs.

Oh and for those of you who think Paul is a saint or Al is the only one guilty of releasing music without people’s permission, Max Brody was not even aware that those Pink Anvil songs appeared on ‘A Perfect Pair’. He didn’t even know the album existed when I asked him about it, even though he is credited on it.

At least Max was given credit on the FB album.

This is the single most compelling reason for me to seriously alter the space-time continuum, ala Back to the Future.
