Wow, that is beautiful. I love that mosque, but only walked around the outside and courtyards of it. The inside is gorgeous. I would have taken the full tour (the guide I was talking to was so friendly and kind) but I was on my way to the city for a meeting and didn’t have the time to spare.
That mosque is stunning.
Here’s information on it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheikh_Zayed_Mosque
“The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque’s design and construction ‘unites the world’, using artisans and materials from many countries including Italy, Germany, Morocco, India, Turkey, Malaysia, Iran, China, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Greece and of course the United Arab Emirates. More than 3,000 workers and 38 renowned contracting companies took part in the construction of the Mosque! Natural materials were chosen for much of its design and construction due to their long-lasting qualities, including marble, stone, gold, semi-precious stones, crystals and ceramics.”
EPIC
and the prayer hall has some major footie potential. It even has a chandelier to swing from for celebration purposes.
why is the mosque empty?
These are great shots, hope your trip was awesome! I would love to visit Abu Dhabi. My girlfriend was interviewing for a job there and we were getting kind of excited to move so were researching it a lot. Then it turned out due to a strange rule about the sort of software she administers she could not take the job. Ah well, some day…
why is the mosque empty?
Everyone’s in training camps
… I’ll get my coat.

Did you say hi to Nermal?
In this area of the Middle East, they won’t have these problems. All the locals to Abu Dhabi are millionaires; they are given ample amounts of money by the government. In one morning alone, I saw the best cars - there is so much money, it’s silly. Most of the country are composed of mainly foreigners but the locals are encouraged to marry each other (if they do, the government provides them with new cars and a house). They are all Western educated and own a lot of businesses world wide.
Not a bad place to live - six figure salaries, no tax and housing is typically provided. I know a few who have moved over from the US and love it. You are only hours away from Europe.
Abu Dhabi is also home to the best airline in the world, Etihad (the one I took).
It was empty because it was 9am, hours before the afternoon prayer.
I’ve not flown Etihad yet because I typically base out of Dubai and I’m a total Emirates fanboy, but I’ve heard nothing but fantastic things about Etihad.
fkkk now thats ART! those pics are amazing!
yeah, nice.

Just curious… does it take long to acclimatise to the area? That’d be one thing that would be a bit offputting for myself. I remember Gunnar’s descriptions of the Qatari weather as less than ideal
This is what every capital city in Australia will look like if our current leftist, fuckhead, minority party pleasing government have anything to say about it.
Yeah, that’s right. I went there!!
i was just watching something on PBS about huge mosques last night. the main prayer hall is amazing.
nice pics, man.
