Ohgr - Undeveloped

WANT. sounds great. I liked DIMD, but also liked welt and sunnypsyop. I am one of those guys who would agree with amlux, i prefer rabies and forward puppy. I reallyliked the process and GWOTR, but i really don’t like the electronic drums and such the used on mythmaker. it sounded like the fm synthesizer from a sega genesis, and i have ALWAYS hated the shitty ass drum sounds from that bastard machine. ugh. But it was a great excuse for them to tour, so Huzzah for that one.

there is a time and place for all puppy, but i find myself listening to the “songs” as opposed to the “other things”

[reply]And still don’t see why last couple of albums are looked upon with contempt. I actually much prefer them to the nasally whining and random chaotic noise of ‘‘classic’’ period Puppy.

Nasally whining? Really? To me the nasally whining really came out in Process. David “Rave” Ogilvie was the guy who applied the vocal modulations to most of the Puppy Albums and worked them into Cevins beats, from I believe MIND:TPI onward to Process, where I believe he worked on part of the album before quitting in frustration. But once Ogilvie was out of the picture Ogre’s voice was less distorted and effect modulated, and to me that’s where the nasally whine really came out, Process and forward. That’s another reason I don’t consider the last two Puppy albums true Puppy, because not only was Dwayne missing, but “Rave” Ogilvie, who was practically the 4th member, was also missing. And Mark Walk is okay on Ogre’s solo albums but I really don’t want the guy involved in Puppy. I would call the latter albums “Puppy in name only”.

They’re certainly better than Too Dark Park and Last Rights.

No.

And while you’re certainly entitled to your opinion, I doubt too many Puppy fans would agree with you.[/reply]

Yeah this post basically echoes my exact thoughts. Though I think by “nasally and whiney” I think he was describing the music being noisey (?) because yeah the newer cleaner Ogre vox style is definitely hella more nasally and whiney.

I agree the new Skinny Puppy is kind of in name only and Mark Walk should not be involved. Though cEvin kEy seems to one bringing the painfully dated “glitch” elements to nu SP so he’s not helping either…

As for Ogilvie, also agree he should be back in for Puppy albums but you can’t exactly force people to work together again…Wonder what he’s up to…

I like it. It sounds a hell of a lot better than anything Puppy has been doing recently. I like GWOTR ok but I;m not much of an SP fan. Only really like a few tracks by them and the album Last Rites. Ohgr’s solo stuff is much better. Wasn’t a fan of DIMD but this sounds like it’ll make up for that.

IMO, his voice got more nasally on SunnyPsyOp. I think it might began some on Process, but got even more so later. GWOTR isn’t a bad album. It’s just not a puppy album. Maybe this is because of Walk’s influence, maybe it isn’t. Who knows? But it sounded more of a mix of mostly ohGr material and some of the side things cEvin had done as well, not puppy. And Mythmaker was simply just incoherent and bad aside for a few songs (ugLi, in particularly).

On DIMD, though, it seems like ogre was getting away from the nasally voice though and singing deeper again (mostly). I honestly don’t mind the nasally vocals (pumpkins fan). I like DIMD alot. About as equal as I do the first two albums. This one’s starting to grow on me now too. Pissage is a pretty cool song, and it starts picking up after that. 101 sounds like bites-era puppy, yes, but other than that, it sounds forgettable. Crash is ok as well. Bellew and Hollow are pretty damn good.

This is not the new Puppy album. It’s been mentioned before that he was working on solo material while the Puppy album was in label limbo. From what I hear, new Puppy will possibly be out before the end of the year.

And still don’t see why last couple of albums are looked upon with contempt. I actually much prefer them to the nasally whining and random chaotic noise of ‘‘classic’’ period Puppy. They’re certainly better than Too Dark Park and Last Rights which I find way too dense and impenatrable. I prefer my Puppy to have melody and cohesiveness…even if they do get a little too “rock” at times.

I am right there with you. The times they nail it are spot on (Natures Revenge, Killing Game), but SP just gets a little too dense and out there for me.

it’s definitely a step towards welt. In the press release ohgr even mentions that DIMD was purposfully made to sound “degraded”, and that this record is not the same direction.

alright fuckers… forget about which “Puppy” is better lets talk about the new Ohgr album that Amlux was talkin’ bout in tha first place…

101 was great…

#5 “Pissage” = genius

shit, #5 kinda reminds me of worlock…

Maybe I’m a little drunk and high, but this shit is pretty f#ckin’ good…

yeah i listened to this record like 4 times yesterday. comedown, pissage, 101, bellew, etc

i realized i was about to name most of the songs on the album, haw.

I finally picked this album up this past week and can’t turn it off. I really like the simplicity of the album. And the auto tune on a couple of tracks fits Ore.
I also grabbed the new 16 volt and have to say its the best since Supercoolnothing.
Check out both if you haven’t already.

That’s a tall order. Supercoolnothing is a great record. I’m not surprised if they nailed it again though- I didn’t listen to it that much, but FullBlackHabit was really pretty good. I always thought 16Volt was way underrated, and now they make me happy because they are one of the only industrial bands I listened to as a teenager that is still releasing music that doesn’t sound tired as shit. Still haven’t seen them live, hopefully they’ll roll through here again. Buddy of mine opened for 'em a couple years back with his band Murder Happens (whose drummer played drums for KMFDM classic at the Retrospectacle).

Will have to get both of 'em. Oghr has yet to disappoint, IMO.

OH YEAH. Streaming the 16Volt now. Fully up to expectations.
