Sounds like I had almost the same experience as mooney at my Ohgr gig…I missed Omniflux completely…caught Lead into Gold…they were ok…talked to Paul a bit…what a nice guy…the venue was really cool but super small stage…Ohgr was fantastic…that show could have gone on for hours and I would have never been bored even for a second…what a talented, creative guy…and his band was excellent throughout…I’ve been going to Skinny Puppy shows since 92…
but this was my first time seeing Ohgr…will most definitely see them again…
Kinda want to go but also kinda don’t… I saw him with KMFDM when they were touring last year or whatever, and he was kind of terrible. Then again, so were KMFDM, and I’m wondering if it just had to do with the venue, with its cramped (lack of) space, inept sound guy, and unforeseen issues (they threw the merch booth guy up there for an impromptu rap performance because the openers didn’t show up). I’d need reassurance that it would be a better time this go-round.
I also went, but on Friday. I had a good time. I met up with rev_skarekroe.
Didn’t get to see omniflux. Saw LIG, I enjoyed it. He played his tunes on a sequencer and sang. He payed bass on a few tunes and (like p non said) omniflux came out and played guitar with him on a few (steve vai guitar - which was a trip).
the ohgr show was great - as always. there also wasn’t many people at the atlanta show. but they still put on a show like there was 1000. they really seemed to be having fun on stage and joking around. they were not serious. mark walk wasn’t there they had some other guy handling key boards. They also had the guy (William Morrison) that plays with Skinny puppy a lot and does a lot of there video work playing bass and doing keyboards. The guy with long dreads who you see playing guitar with skinny puppy played guitar. that guy had more fun that anyone - laughing, mouthing all the words. it was a good vibe. Justin Bennett played drums - he’s great. it was pretty stripped down almost like a garage band. Maybe it was the mix but the keyboards weren’t high in the mix.
if you don’t like them or the schtick - no need to go. but man, if you 've never seen him/ohgr preform, it’s great.
My God! I just read the part about Ogre getting mugged. That’s fucking horrible. Has anything further been given about the story. I’m just wondering if it was just random street thuggery or if it was actually targeted or motivated by anything supposedly political. Really repulsive whatever the backstory.
But, Man, what a fucking trooper to get out and go straight to the frontlines to complete the show. I can NOT imagine how bad having a broken JAW would be for a guy whose career is singing. Thank God for vocal distortion, at least haha.
But seriously, that’s super shitty and I really hope whoever did it is served some justice either by the law or by the streets.
My buddy had a broken jaw and it had to be wired shut for like 6-8 weeks. He said it was the worst time of his life. He couldn’t eat anything but soup broths and such and he couldn’t properly brush his teeth or clean his mouth even. He lost like 20 pounds from it.
