Thanks for posting, that was a lot of fun!
awesome. obama must have writers from the onion on staff now.
thanks afra.
He had enough material to work from anyway. His was certainly funnier than McCain’s speech.
Did you see that third debate? McCain actually said, “We are not going to spread the wealth around” He didn’t just say it once but several times and last night I saw a commercial where he said it again!!
Does he not understand how this sounds? “We are not going to spread the wealth around” so you can work as hard as you want but you are not going to ever be any better off under my administration! What a Douche!

I saw on CNN yesterday that Mccain thinks teachers should be paid based on merit.
Grmpy: I believe you are a teacher. What do you think of that?
My wife is a teacher, and she thinks the idea is quite funny.

It’s stupid! Obama thinks merit pay (although through bonuses) is ok as well!
Merit Pay is a joke. Low income schools and high income schools have different values(within the student body)…and I don’t mean for the teachers because the teachers are generally the same (personality and class control with standing) because we have to teach to the state standards…
It’s just another way to take the student resposibility and dump it onto the teachers!
I’ll go more in depth in about 20 minutes…gotta give a test right now!

what mccain and these other dumbasses don’t get is teachers work their asses off, pay for supplies out of their own pockets, and never see a parent of an “under performing” kid.
well. why not? are the parents too busy at their two jobs, or are they too busy playing tennis or shopping…
when i had some time, i volunteered at my kid’s elementary school . i went to the parent teacher conferences when i could.
teachers get zero respect, and ALL of the blame when kids fail.
My sister is a teacher and I hear all sorts of stories all the time. Kids are just really disrespectfull, especially in the inner-city lean on me kinda school system… drugs in the bathrooms and shit… it’s scary man. To take awa from these people who give so much of themselves for fucking pennies because parents or society or whatever it is, that makes shitty kids is a fucking travesty… all that would do would discourage people from entering the field… my mother was a secretary at a highschool for a while also… this is back 10 years ago in newark, and some kids came into their main office, took a letter opener and went up to another kid and dug out most of his front teeth with it . So yeah mom quit soon after that.
yeah some teachers suck, but I mean, alot of them are just jaded… they obviously went into the field with good intentions cause it’s certainly not the pay that brings them in…
Ok from the stand point of politics EVERYTHING is the teachers fault!
Kid Fails a unit…Teacher did not teach it correctly
Kid does not complete work… Teacher is making work too hard
Kid fails tet…Teacher did not adequately prepare students (even though, before, the work was too hard)
Kids falls asleep at his desk… Teacher is not entertaining enough.
Kid Mouths off in class…Teacher is not making the environment comfortable!
Everything is the teacher’s fault!! The list goes on and on!
Right now I teach in a district where the majority of students are low income. The majority of students have moved to the area as terms of probation for one or both parents (They have to leave the county that they committed the crime in we are the closest one to Los Angeles that is affordable)…So with that type of back ground, how is any “Normal” college grad/teacher even expected to handle people like this?.. They don’t care for authority and have instilled those “values” in their kids and then their kids don’t generally have authority in their life…This is our fault??? This Blame the teacher mentality has got to stop. Don’t get me wrong… we don’t walk on water and there are probably quite a few teachers that would be better off in a better career but come on now… if they applied the standards that they give the students to the teachers EVERYONE would be a winner and we would all lose! Can’t fail students because it will warp their fragile little minds but it doesn’t seem to faze them when they fail state test after state test? How does that work?
Stupid!

My mom was a middle school teacher back in the really old “Leave it to Beaver” days and the modern days. Teaching is night and day. Kids don’t listen and you can’t discipline them. Most teachers that are “good enough” will find a different career where they don’t have to deal with that nonsense. I don’t think higher pay and firing bad teachers will work. I think it will just cause a shortage of teachers and budget problems. The first thing that needs to be done is go back to allowing paddling and stuff.
This is right on the money! I don’t think we need to reintroduce paddling BUT we need to bring some accountability back to these kids. They KNOW they can do whatever whenever they please and get away with it! I failed all of my classes, but no need to worry, they will socially promote me to the next grade!! I cussed out the teacher, no need to worry, it’s probably the teacher’s fault because the teacher didn’t teach him a better vocabulary! It’s this type of nonsense that needs to end!

hang in there king smurf.
what a lot of kids never hear is the word NO. as a teacher, you possibly have some leeway with that, but i don’t know. i admire you for choosing a profession which is basically thankless at this point.
there is some innovation in the area of education lately, with doing all boy/all girl classes for certain subjects, and i don’t find that discriminatory whatsoever. as you king smurf know, boys and girls handle being in a classroom differently. forget about their economic situation–that’s a given. but separate the sexes and keep the fingers (and the legs) crossed.
i went to a public magnet school in chicago, which had an enormous student population, and kids got their asses kicked occasionally, but the conversation between the parents and the administrators was always, “this kid’s going to college, and keep his ass in line.”
it’s all about the parents. let the teachers do their jobs and stop being intervention counselous, baby sitters, whatever.
