Nothing new under the sun my friends. Any negativity that has been voiced before applies to NYC night #1 too. The same BS (translates to BUSH SHIT) setlist, the same overall lameness and the same retardo-metal audience. The same pathetic and cliché first opener, the same sleeping pill for the second opener (the first 2 dillinger escape plan records (EP & CD), that’s what I would file under complex & skilled metal)…
Well, what can I say, I knew what was coming, so no reason to complain, right?! Only, Ministry has proven once again to be a hypocrite bunch of liars, no more no less. Irving Plaza’s website clearly states that the venue does not have a problem with point and shot digi cams, you know the pocket size ones, unless the band doesn’t allow it. So the place was plastered with ‘ABSOLUTELY NO PHOTOGRAPHY OR RECORDING OF ANY TYPE’ signs last night. At first I thought, yeah whatever, they probably have these up all the time and don’t enforce it since their website’s statement is pretty clear and the Ministry camp has been quoted several times to be ok with recordings and all that stuff. Let’s just say I was wrong like I haven’t been in a while. Security was tight and sneered at anyone who held their cell phones above the waist line, getting in their way of shooting, getting into the crowd telling people they can’t do that. Gotta give them credit for being friendly though. No grabbing of equipment or other harassment. I personally thought the no photo/recording thing was pretty foul and unexpected because of Jourgensen’s past statements about the subject matter. But hey, if he or the missus wants it this way, fair enough. But then just friggin’ say it and don’t be all “I’m so down with the fans, I don’t care”…
The Ministry show itself was, like I said before, no different from any other of the recent gigs it seems. From the old songs only Thieves and Just One Fix sounded alright. So What was, hmmm, not the same without Connelly and NWO I never really liked. Plus B.Bell just didn’t seem right for the vocals part. The only good thing about the show was Tommy Victor on guitar. He added big time to the overall stage presence, plus he is a local which always helps in NYC.
Left before the cover songs, had already suffered enough for the night. Needless to say I won’t be going back today. I actually might have gone, had Ministry not outed themselves as such hypocrites regarding recording. But the way things are there’s no way on earth I’d be willing to chip out whatever tickets might be going for on the streets tonight, just to see 2 songs I end up liking. Last night tickets went for 60 to 80 I think. Spoke to a girl who made a sale for 60. She was happy and so seemed the ‘customer’. Happy btw is the term of the evening as the majority of the crowd was totally into everything Ministry played. Jeez, I saw spazzed out dancing and moshing on the balcony. I guess there are actually a decent amount of people who like the post 1992 output. With a few exceptions I just don’t happen to be one of them.
isn’t the definition of insanity that you keep doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result?
oh wait. al probably doesn’t care at this point what the show’s about as long as the hype stays alive.
I had a spare ticket. I traded it for beer, though as it turns I probably could have scalped it. I saw several people leaving when they found out the show was sold out.
“Post 1992”? Wow you set the bar really early on that one. If you don’t like ‘Filth Pig’, ‘Dark Side of the Spoon’ or ‘Animositisomina’ then you have shit taste.
Ministry didn’t start to suck until Paul’s departure. That being said, it’s not like it matters since they didn’t play anything from those 3 classic albums anyway.
So our opinions regarding this awful show would doubtless be the same.
Well, there is such thing as nostalgia. In such case you really can’t blame a guy for that. Especially when listening to a band for so long. There is just something about knowing it’s a final show and just feeling as though you’re “obligated” to see them. Figuring, you’ve seen and heard them for so many years already and knowing it’s the end and everything, shitty or not. It’s Al’s end of ministry, which still is a pretty big deal despite the shitty setlist and somewhat lacking last couple albums.
Yeah this is pretty fucking redundant. If you say “I hate everything since Psalm 69”, then why go to a concert where you know only 3 songs will be from that the “good old days”, then sit back sneering and bitching like an elitist prick.
I feel the same way about nuMinistry, I’m just not dumb enough to buy a ticket and go for that very reason. The only person you should be mad at is yourself for buying a fucking ticket when you should have known what to expect.

plus you give it the benefit of the doubt, you know. kinda for old times sake. I am still happy that I went because I won’t be plagued by regrets later. “man I should have gone blah blah”. I was glad though that the majority of folks were feelings it all very much because it made for a sweet atmosphere of an otherwise pretty ordinary entertainment event.
