Nursing Home “Poison Ivy Summer” is now available to listen to/download at http://www.myspace.com/nursinghomeband. Originally conceived on the Fourth of July after I was released from a brief incarceration, the song is our take on country music (think “Folsom Prison Blues”). It’s about toiling in the fields as landscapers, imprisonment, and heartbreak at the hands of a white trash ‘country girl’.
Lyrics:
Pickin’ and pickin’ and pickin’ those weeds
My country girl from a white trash world
She worked me like a fuckin’ dog
I made the cash, I paid the bills
But nothing was enough for her
She hates it everywhere she goes
She hates herself it follows her
My poison ivy summer’s gone
But the rash she left it burns me still
Pickin’ and pickin’ and pickin’ those weeds
Jesus won’t you come for me
Country girl (you were my)
You can burn the trash in the trailer park
But the trailer park has wheels
She followed me through thick and thicker
She put me in a jail cell
She painted me the villain
But that’s the only role I know
Just pickin’ and pickin’ and pickin’ those weeds
And pissing on her corpse as I go
Pickin’ and pickin’ and pickin’ those weeds
Jesus won’t you come for me
I’m not quite as embarrassed for you with these new pics. I think this should be a new direction in costume you might want seriously think about!
It’s still costumey but not so ridiculously overt Temper-tantrum goth child That I blush![cool]
I’ll get around to the song a little later BTW a couple of songs were not bad on your last post. I was in the middle of commenting on them when my computer exploded with stupid Security tool TRojan. the really good One, the only real complaint I had was that it wasn’t long enough it, seemed more a like a 1st verse rather than a whole song

Country music can only be good when it is being played a non-country music act, i.e. irreverently.
I thought the song was going to be more distinctly “country” just more aggresive maybe, but I think its more country in its subject than anything else. I like the change at 2:24, it sounded like it was going to break off in a direction direction, JKB style (‘Us and Them’, ‘Dead Eyes’ etc.) The “yeah yeah yeah” backing vox sound a bit uncomfortable in the mix, but that could be just the shitty myspace quality. Fitting guitar sound and other noises, as has been the case with all your recent stuff.

Oh but I like making you blush, baby. Haha “overt Temper-tantrum goth child” should be the title of my next song.
As for the Halloween stuff I think you’re talking about “Trick or Treat”. We literally did that in 4 hours (recording, vocals, mixing) and there was something cool to me about the simplicity and immediacy of it that I didn’t want to ruin by concocting a bridge or trying to stretch it. I usually spend so much time crafting songs and being anal about levels that it was nice to just shit out a nice little punk-industrial LORAH rip-off and not overanalyze and obsess for once.
We did that song the night before the keyboardist flew back to Florida.

The second photo is the best.
Thanks for the comments. I agree second photo is cool it is very spontaneous not edited or contrived in any way just a bad shot that turned out great.
I agree about the “yeah yeah yeah” part. If you knew the hours I spent agonizing over the volume of it and the EQ of it you would laugh. To be honest I think the guitarist just doesn’t have a great voice and I probably should have done that myself because it sounds so rough but I said fuck it I don’t want to be my own backup singer and be so polished.
Yeah the bridge you mentioned was the hardest part to come up with. I wrote the song on my bass in a very short time and we did all the recording portion (minus vocals) in one session but the bridge took a whole day by itself. We finally thought of something after a shit load of beer and weed, dicking around playing random shit. It’s funny how that works sometimes.
I agree the song is not necessarily country in sound but more in theme and lyrics, but I did rip the beat for the verses straight from the live version of “Folsom Prison Blues”, just industrialized it.
Just got around to listening to this - sounds a lot like the old Marilyn Manson & the Spooky Kids demos.
Now you just need to find a Trent Reznor to sponsor your ascent to stardom.
