the bass playing on step is seriously awesome.
it was already good enough, but this version really made me realise how good a bassist paul was. up til then, i immaturely didn’t rate him or any of the other bassists in ministry, because like most teenage musicians, i spent my days masturbating over victor wooten, jaco pastorius, eddie van halen, etc etc etc… sad [laugh]

Honestly, the MP3’s from what I recall always sounded like shit. Someone in the studio leaked it to Afra (in fact, the lyrics were transcribed from it, notice the ‘Dancing Outlaw’ sample at the beginning is transcribed?), and I think the MP3’s were like lower than 96 kbps even…keep in mind this was early 1999 and there was no Napster yet, no torrents, no nothing.
yeah it was 128kbps and a badly encoded mp3s at that. and the tape was a high gen - you can hear the annoying noise and some squeaky pitch at like half the times, typical tape “thingy”. also, eureka pile on that tape (or mp3 rip, dunno) is cut; it’s less than a minute.
Why “Supermanic Soul,” “Nursing Home” and “Step” were chopped down for the finished album is a complete mystery to me. ESPECIALLY the extra bass on “Step.”
