I’m going to New Orleans in Sept. for an Afghan Whigs concert…I haven’t been since the mid 90s…I was wondering if anyone has been in the last 10 years(post-Katrina)…not really looking for any advice or anything, just kinda curious if anyone from the board here has been there in that time…just going for the weekend and we have our trip pretty much planned out,but if there any suggestions or anything I should avoid , I would certainly be all ears…
I lived there for a couple months in 2012. Love that place. The city has really bounced back since Katrina.
Early September is still hurricane season, so be aware of that.
What’s on the itinerary? I basically ate and drank the whole time, so I’m pretty knowledgable in that area.

Yeah,I’m in Miami so hurricane season is second nature to me…just an annual fact of life…
We will be spending some time at the R Bar,BJ’s Lounge,Hotel Monteleone’s Carousel Bar…
Probably go to preservation Hall and the Spellcaster’s Lounge…prob check out a few museum’s…
Dine at Mariza and The Joint for some BBQ…
Prob head to Algier’s Point…
these are a few of the things we will get in to…I’d love any other suggestion’s if you got em…what area did you live in when you were there?
I like New Orleans too.
Haven’t been there since '03, but I dug it.
Great food, great music, cool people.
I stayed in the Warehouse district, which has really been revitalized in the last few years. Love the old architecture there. If you find yourself in that area, and are a meat eater, I recommend a place called Butcher. Mostly a sandwich shop, but they have some really cool homemade meats. I tried headcheese for the first time there.
Also, and this is a little off the wall, I always get a shave at Aiden Gill. It’s like an old school men’s salon/barber, where they give you a whiskey while they attend to you. There’s one on Fulton, just outside the Warehouse district or on Magazine St in the Garden district.

Haha…yeah the R Bar has a similar thing on Monday night…they give you a hair cut and a well shot for $10…I’ll check it out along with Butcher…thnx…
Where are you staying when you’re there?
At the Crowne Plaza on Canal Street…

Oh, nice. I will have to check out R-Bar when I go back (August probably). . .but I have spent many nights at the carousel bar.
They have an absinthe drink there called “Corpse Reviver” that just rules. Always helps with hangovers.

Yeah, the R Bar is on Royal Street in Marigny section…it’s owned by Greg Dulli of the Afghan Whigs and is a real local hang…supposed to have one of the best juke boxes in the country and has cool shit like the aforementioned haircut and shot on Mon nights…and on Fri they have FREE crawfish and other food…and apparently if you go it is customary to get a Miller High Life(yuck,I know but when in Rome)and a shot for $5…
‘Corpse Reviver’ is an incredible name for a drink…I will definitely have to order one of those…
