Noise anyone?

So… It’s taken almost a year of my friend who is into this stuff constantly playing it and badgering me to get into it, and it’s finally happened. I’m a noise addict now.

Anyone else on this board listen to things like :

Merzbow
Venetian Snares
Speedranch

etc?

And if there are any of you, mind throwing me in the direction of some other stuff like this?

Peace!

Krowe

Shop around - I did the product display, shopping cart, etc. So I got hooked up with deals but they are cheap anyhow, considering most of the stuff is import. They carry Ant-Zen artists too.

Zentriert ins Antlitz (really noisy industrial/techno)

I’m really into Wolf Eyes (just got their live DVD called ‘Covered in Bugs’), Merzbow and Nautical Almanac.

Anyone who’s into noise/experimental should really check out Wolf Eyes. They alternate between nightmarish soundscapes/drones and stomping militant drum machine tracks. Their work is very industrial, scary, and structured compared to most other noise acts.

‘Covered in Bugs’ rocks; you can see them operating all their bizarre equipment. Aaron Dilloway has this mic that he actually puts in his cheek to make wierd noises. They also use this huge viking horn, a saxophone, and a broken guitar. You also get to see Young sing in that demon voice and play drum machine/homemade objects. Come to think of it they all play wierd homemade objects as well. Anyway it fuckin rocks.

Yeah, Wolf Eyes rule. Hopefully I’m going to see them again in October or so. Tour dates: http://www.subpop.com/scripts/main/tours.php?table=tours&display_type=tours_list&limit=20&order_by=bandname,date&date>%3D=2005-06-30&bandname=Wolf+Eyes

Where’d ya get Covered In Bugs? I’ve been looking for that for awhile.

oooh. where did you find this wolf eyes dvd?
i loved them live. probably one of the best shows i’ve ever seen.
there were all these pussy hipsters with their fingers in their ears.

just saw wolf eyes again a couple weeks ago here in ann arbor. i love how 20 people show up for their hometown shows. i enjoy them live but don’t have a lot of use for their recorded tracks. also, i just read something about aaron dilloway no longer touring with them and only helping out in the studio. details on:

http://www.tinymixtapes.com/2005_06_01_archivenews.htm

“Despite the fact that Dilloway will no longer be playing live with Wolf Eyes, he says that he will still record with them at times and “will most likley produce the more ‘proper’ albums.” So, he’s not completely out of the group.”

I’m glad I got to see Dilloway with Wolf Eyes. He rules. He’s doing some touring of his own right now.

Seeing Wolf Eyes with Mike Connelly was cool too. They’ve released two CDs with him in the group, “Deranged” and “Lung Malfunction”. Probably semi-hard to find cheap now though.

there were all these pussy hipsters with their fingers in their ears.

Lemme guess - Sonic Youth show? They were all there too for me. Fucking hipster posers…

“Hey, Jarvis Cocker from Pulp called. He wants his fashion from the 80’s returned back to him”.

Same goes for the music…sigh…

But yeah…wolf eyes - awesome concert and sound…

Lemme guess - Sonic Youth show?

nah. wolf eyes were headlining.
its just that there i nothing but hipsters in vancouver so you can’t go anywhere without being surrounded by them.
wolf eyes was an early show and i went to gang of four afterwards so it was hipster central that night.

KK Null - Atomik Disorder on Neurot Records. I’ve been meaning to pick this disc up. Have a live sample on the Neurot Recordings I compilation and it’s pretty cool. Plus the guy that does KK Null did some work with Masami Akita/Merzbow.

I really need to check out Wolf Eyes myself at some point.

If you like KK Null and Ministry, you MUST get some Zeni Geva! Awesome rock n roll with nice melvins/big black/whatever influences. KK plays guitars in there with a few other awesome Japanese guys.

I got the ‘Covered in Bugs’ DVD on Ebay for like $12. There should be a few more copies floating around if you do a search…

That article about Dilloway leaving is interesting…he definitely added a lot to their sound. I like the Hair Police though, and I’m sure that new dude will do a good job.

As far as noise goes, I’d have to say I really dig NON/Boyd Rice and Merzbow…(is it just me or did no one mention Boyd in this thread? :P)

Its not really noise per se’ but recently Ive been on a Lustmord binge. Love that scary dark ambient droning. Also the Lustmord vs. Metal Beast album is pretty cool too…kinda takes Lustmord’s dark horror soundscapes and mixes them with Aphex Twin beats.

For the Aaron Dilloway fans, he has a new CD (actually, it’s a re-release) called “Bad Dreams” which can be bought for 8 dollars (and that includes shipping) over at
http://www.iheartnoise.com/catalog.htm

I ordered from them before, and they’re nice and fast.

Also, Dilloway has two websites:
www.hansonrecords.net
www.smelltheremains.com
the latter has two mp3s to check out.

Anyone who’s into noise/experimental should really check out Wolf Eyes. They alternate between nightmarish soundscapes/drones and stomping militant drum machine tracks.

Wolf Eyes?? That is, like, soooo last year.

Get with the program, sister.
