there is also a torrent available of behind the scenes footage of the closer video (think it’s something like 4 hours? or something)

Nah, I can’t agree with this. Otto Von Schirach is cutting-edge, and has been gaining a following since touring with Skinny Puppy. And Load Records is a very “hip” label now, so Skinny Puppy was “with it” to tour with Sword Heaven, Silver Daggers, White Mice, etc. I saw White Mice and didn’t like them, but I later got Sword Heaven’s CD and they’re cool. Meshuggah aren’t “metal nobodies,” they’re one of the biggest metal bands of 2008, in all of the mainstream metal fanzines. So SP and Ministry have both been in good company on their latest tours.
Trent’s fondness for indie actually annoys me, as much as one can be annoyed by the music preferences of someone they don’t know. There’s just something about the concept of music by “indie darlings” that lacks balls. I’d love to see NIN tour with an industrial band again.[/reply]
Trent’s fondness for great music amazes me. TV on the Radio, Saul Williams, Autolux, Bauhaus, the Dresden Dolls, Moving Units, A Place To Bury Strangers…I would pay to see any one of those bands/artists play a headline show.
I think Trent is in touch with what’s relevant in music and it’s one of the reasons that he has stayed that way. His music changes from album to album like someone said. Why should he make TDS again? It’s already sitting in my room. I can put it in and listen to it anytime I want. The last 3 albums have been great IMO. Ghosts was ok, but it wont get much repeat from me.
Trent’s ability to seek out and find good “hip” younger music reminds me of what bowie does

good comparison, i think. bowie has inadvertently fucked some people over with this ability though, so lets hope Trent doesn’t go down that path.
Many people here may not have any use for Does It Offend You, Crystal Castles, or Place to Bury Strangers, but these acts are what the kids are listening to these days. Trent and his old crowd are not trendsetters anymore - instead he follows trends.
Case in point:
(Yes, that’s nin, not the Faint)
There’s the I’m different but still angry look but didn’t last as then he becomes a hipster:
So give the guy a chance to get in with the new ‘cool’ crowd… haha
No man, nowadays they have a different style. see for yourself.
I love that video! Trent’s new look is uber-hot!
What I have head of the new stuff… .only echoplex I think… seems a bit meh. But it will usually take until a year or two after release before I really get into something. Just seems a bit bland, kinda ordinary music with staple reznor vocals which aren’t really cutting it for me. Downloading the album now, will see how it goes as a whole. (I am pretty big nin fan btw),
2x songs from the sampler are really good, the DIOYY? I think and another, I wasnt looking at the names. Old trenty does take some awesome bands on tour, or tour with greats…
Warning! The following is not completely accurate I’m sure.
PHM (or Pre-PHM) - toured with Skinny Puppy
TDS - Manson Hole TON piG +many more (bowie of course)
Fragile - A Perfect circle/Atari Teenage Riot
With Teeth - QOTSA, dresden dolls, eagles of death metal/saul williams/bauhau/peaches
Yr Zero - ladytron/dandy warhols/alec empire/unkle
now the new lot of hoozits that the kiddies dig… Pretty damn good supports/co-headliners for a lot of tours, I would be afraid of being upstaged! Who pays for supports? NIN or the record label (well obviousley just him now…) or do they just get a cut of ticket sales? Has anyone attended a NIN show with any of the particular openers above? How were they received?
the DIOYY cd is really great BTW

Wow this is on the net? I’m so onto it. It’s story time children, all gather around…
A few years ago I bought a bootleg of some old shows (88-89 pre-PHM shows) which at the end had about 20 mins of closer behind the scenes stuff and some other rare goodies… the guy i bought it from, had… now don’t quote me, 10 hours of closer behind the scenes footage, 4 of which he had edited down and was going to number and sell to handful of people, he offered a copy to myself as I had been talking with him after I bought the boot. He was numbering so it wouldn’t be re-copied afterwards, ie. he knew the 10 people he was sending to so if it became common blah blah you know the drill.
ANYWAY, before we got to the end of our deal, somehow he got found out and someone cracked the sads and he dropped off the face of the planet after changing email addresses about 3 times, and I got no closer footage. Someone did evidently. He told me he got it direct from the shooter…maybe he was just blowing smoke up my rear who knows, but I did have like I said a snippet of it years before the closure dvds came online.
Another useless story from the depths of the Stairwell. [sly]
So anyone gone out to see NIN yet?
I’m going on Saturday and am pretty stoked. The setlists so far have been interesting though it looks like “Capital G” hasn’t been played.
