Why does everyone hate With Teeth so much?
I like it, but I understand why some people don’t. Even Trent has said it was too much of a conscious attempt at a very commercial sounding record.

I think PHM is a great album if you’re a pussy-ass bitch, otherwise it has it’s moments but is mostly middling.

I’ve tried, honestly tried, to get into the other stuff. Broken/Fixed, from what I’ve heard, is pretty cool, but just didn’t grab me the way PHM did. Downward Spiral would be decent enough, but it’s one of those records I can’t listen to because of the people and places it conjures up, you know? Never listened to the Fragile. With Teeth is decent, I love the FUCK outta “Only.” I wound up giving away my copy of Year Zero to some kid because I thought the record sucked.
PHM is my favorite NIN record for two big reasons:
I. It just resonates with me in that snarky, playful, and semi-mysoginistic kinda way, and
II. I spent a week doing nothing but getting REALLY high and playing Super Mario World to this album and for some reason, something magical happened and everything just kinda clicked together into one crazy, cohesive whole. You know those guys that insist Dark Side of the Moon and the Wizard of Oz synch up perfectly? That’s PHM and Mario Bros. I have NO fuckin’ clue why.[/reply]
Fragile is probably my fav nin era. You should definitely check it out. Start with 10 Miles High.
the fragile imo has some amazing pieces interworked with with some total crap. starfuckers,inc. is the worst shit he ever recorded. there’s a couple other massively cringeworthy cuts on the fragile. the flip side is the stuff like la mer which floored me.

To me its not so much the commercial sound, that doesn’t bother me at all. Its more the lazy atrocious lyrics. For example Every Day is Exactly The Same… sounds like a bored 12 year old co-wrote the song. Maybe that was Trents intent at a commercial sound. Uninspired lyrics always get the job done these days.
with teeth has it’s moments. Home is one of my fav nin songs (with teeth b-side).
With Teeth has a lot of throwaways imo compared to others. The Collector is easily forgetable.
