NIN: hand that feeds

last night saw the video to this ‘song’ on mtv2 and it’s a terrible track with a video that is a copy of the radiohead video where the band is in a studio and a camera is panning and zooming in on them.

hope the rest of the album is better.

i think my decision not to buy albums anymore is justified [;)]

apart from Ministry and Nick Cave releases [laugh]

Wow dude…go watch the ‘March of the Pigs’ video because it’s basically the same fuckin thing and they did that a looong time ago.

I always laugh when people saying this or that “is a copy” of this or that. A music video is a music video bro…they’re basically just fucking commercials to sell the albums. If he had done something that was more theatric and contrived, would that too have been “a copy” of thousands of other videos?

Is every video with blubbery ass cheeks jiggling against the tight confines of a g-string “a copy” too? If so, I guess we owe it to ourselves to find who the first genius to put out such a music video was so we can label everyone else “copiers”.

Come on dude…so lame.

And as for your decision not to buy albums…go buy ‘Burned Mind’ by Wolf Eyes. That ought to give you the consumer satisfaction you think you deserve.

Most music vids have absolutely No effect on me whatsoever. There are a few exceptions of course - Chris Cunningham and a few others have made music videos into an artform by pushing boundaries and staying ahead of the competition. By these are few and far between.

And as for whining about something being a copy of a copy of a copy - what’s the point. The whole point of the video is just to get the song out there in the market. I think the band has more to worry about when releasing a new album on an unsuspecting public than how ‘cutting edge’ the video is going to be!!

well, it’s better than the starfuckers video [laugh]

The video sucked. I’m not above admitting it.

the song is pretty straight forward. the first time i heard it didnt like it but the second time it was better. supposedly its the most commercial track on the album so thats a bit of a relief. trent can do better

i’m not pissed off that it’s a lame video, more how bad the song is.

wolf eyes are shite.

jesu are nice tho (still not buying) [cool]

what i mean is he (trent reznor) should put some effort into the visuals as much as the music, no?

Just curious, what Wolf Eyes have you heard? Their material varies a lot but I think if you give them a chance you might enjoy them…just a thought. If you enjoy real industrial that is of course.

As for Jesu, if you like them then why not buy it? Just curious…I mean it just upsets me when people decide to download and then not buy shit if they like what they hear. God knows Broadrick needs your support if hes going to continue recording. These bands need to know that people are into them and internet downloads just don’t accomplish that.

A lot of my friend’s won’t buy CD’s either because they say that labels rip the artists off and they make more touring anyway, but who cares? As long as the artist is getting something in their pocket it’s better than outright stealing their music…

And I do agree that The Hand that Feeds video is lame compared to older gems like the Closer video or the Happiness in Slavery video (if you have the balls to sit through it that is)…especially since Reznor said something about how music videos used to be an art form and now they are just a way to sell things. The Hand that Feeds video certainly isn’t very artistic, you’re right about that one!

Here’s what Mr. Reznor had to say about this video:

Thing is Trent, your video’s just boring to watch.
Sorry.

Just curious, what Wolf Eyes have you heard? …As for Jesu, if you like them then why not buy it? Just curious…

You sure are the ‘curious’ type.

I mean it just upsets me when people decide to download and then not buy shit if they like

If this upsets you, as you say it does, you ought to seriously start considering getting a life of sorts. Really!

God knows Broadrick needs your support if hes going to continue recording.

What are you? The guy’s publicist!?!?

A lot of my friend’s won’t buy CD’s either because they say that labels rip the artists off

Word of advice - get new friends!

The Hand that Feeds video is lame compared to older gems like the Closer video…

The sepia toned bondage vid starring the naked chick with the shaved bits? Hmmmm…

…especially since Reznor said something about how music videos used to be an art form and now they are just a way to sell things.

He said that? And I thought he was lacking in intelligence…!

I enjoyed the video. I sort of like how you can see most of the band play, it wasn’t the usual vanity project (like Manson videos) with just shitty close ups of the lead singer. I like the song too, sure its pop sounding but you can’t be all doom and gloom all the time. I find as I get older I like the Nine Inch Nails material even more. I think the new cd will be just fine. Given its not Ministry, but few things are.

dude… i don’t know why no one brought up March of the Pigs video. it is one of my top 5 videos of all time. its live - no bullshit. Not many others (except REM (circa 85) or New Order (circa 85). End of Tread.

Maybe jesu will do one, huh?

Maybe jesu will do one, huh?

Interesting interview with Broadrick that Suicide Girls did:

http://suicidegirls.com/words/Jesu/

“For me Jesu is a pop band but maybe not to other people.”

what i mean is he (trent reznor) should put some effort into the visuals as much as the music, no?

I think he should start by putting some effort in the music first… Boring song, boring video. Hope the rest is better.
IN my opinion the best NIN song is Gave Up, the music video verision…

Gave Up is my favorite song off of Broken… Especially the video versionb/edit from Closure. Very kewl. Hoping very much to hear it live, but for some reason I am seriously doubting it will happen.
